Interning at PT Timah, Students from Various Universities Apply Knowledge and Gain Industry Experience

BANGKA BARAT -- PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting education in Indonesia. One of the company’s contributions is providing opportunities for students to carry out internships and research within the company environment.

As a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, PT Timah is one of the companies recommended by various universities for internship programs.
Each year, dozens of students from top universities across Indonesia choose PT Timah as a place to deepen their understanding of the industry, particularly in the mining and mineral processing sectors.

This year, students from Universitas Indonesia (UI), Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS), and Universitas Jambi are conducting internships at the Processing and Refinery Division of PT Timah.

One of them, Stephanie from Universitas Jambi, said the internship experience at PT Timah was very relevant to her field of study.

“I chose PT Timah because it aligns with my major, which is minerals. A senior of mine had previously interned here and shared many positive stories. During the internship, we learned directly about the mineral processing flow, from ore analysis to other technical processes. Our mentors were also very helpful and kind. I hope PT Timah continues to succeed,” she said.

Similar thoughts were shared by Arivo, a Metallurgical Engineering student from Universitas Indonesia, who said he gained a lot of new experiences during his internship at PT Timah.

“PT Timah provides great facilities and infrastructure. We were able to witness firsthand the tin production process from start to finish. What we learned in the classroom could be directly applied here. We’re very grateful to have had the opportunity to learn directly in this industrial environment,” he shared.

Sanuel Martin Pasaribu, an ITS student from Pematang Siantar, said he had known about PT Timah for a long time because his grandfather used to work at the company.

“I was interested in interning at PT Timah because my major, metallurgy, is very relevant. I wanted to see how the theories we study in college are implemented in the field. Everyone here is very open and eager to share their knowledge. I hope PT Timah continues to thrive and bring great benefits to the nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Arjuna Putra Prakoso, a Metallurgical Engineering student from ITB, chose PT Timah based on recommendations from seniors.

“Our seniors highly recommended interning at PT Timah. It turns out they were right—the work environment is comfortable, the mentors are very supportive, and we can directly apply our course materials in real-world practice,” Arjuna said.

Another ITS student, Rebecca Hutagalung, also shared her experience observing the smelting process at PT Timah.

“We wanted to see the smelting process on an industrial scale. The employees here are very cooperative and helped us a lot in completing our internship tasks. It’s been an incredibly valuable experience,” she said.

Through this internship program, PT Timah not only provides a learning space but also plays a role in shaping a younger generation ready to enter the workforce. This support for higher education also reflects the company’s social responsibility in building quality human resources for Indonesia’s future.
