BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmentally conscious education through real action. Most recently, the company donated five sets of categorized trash bins and hydroponic seedlings to SDN 1 Pemali, located in Air Ruai Village, Pemali District, Bangka Regency, on Friday (July 25, 2025).
This support was previously symbolically handed over to representatives of SDN 1 Pemali during the HARI CERDAS (Clean, Tidy, and Beautiful Helipad – a Reflection of Environmentally Friendly Education) event held at the Helipad of Balai Karya Sungailiat.
Beyond fostering environmental awareness from an early age, this assistance also supports SDN 1 Pemali in its pursuit of achieving the prestigious Adiwiyata Mandiri title.
The Adiwiyata Mandiri Program is an initiative by Indonesia’s Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) that encourages schools to become active, participatory, and sustainable centers for environmental education. By supporting this program, PT Timah contributes to strengthening an educational ecosystem that values not only academic excellence but also social and environmental responsibility.
With the facilities and education provided, the school is expected to consistently apply environmental preservation principles and involve students from an early age in environmental management.
SDN 1 Pemali Principal, Tjik Ani, stated that the school is currently striving to achieve Adiwiyata Mandiri status.
“With the support of categorized trash bins—organic, inorganic, and hazardous (B3)—as well as hydroponic seedlings from PT Timah, our school is greatly assisted in meeting one of the key requirements to become an Adiwiyata Mandiri school. These facilities support structured waste management and serve as direct educational tools for students to get used to sorting waste from an early age,” she said.
She explained that the sorted inorganic waste will be distributed to the Air Ruai Village Waste Bank and processed into reusable items, while organic waste will be turned into compost in collaboration with the Bangka Environmental Agency.
Meanwhile, the hydroponic seedlings and planting media (rockwool) will be used in the school’s greenhouse.
Head of the Bangka Environmental Agency, Ismir Rachmaddinianto, said this initiative is a collaboration between PT Timah and the agency to help SDN 1 Pemali achieve the Adiwiyata Mandiri title.
“These categorized bins also serve as a way to educate students and staff at SDN 1 Pemali about environmental preservation and waste sorting,” he said.
PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, emphasized that building environmentally conscious generations starts in schools.
“PT Timah continues to support environmental-based education, such as the initiative at SDN 1 Pemali. By providing categorized trash bins, students are encouraged to separate organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste. This habit not only helps maintain a clean school environment but also fosters awareness about the importance of responsible waste management,” said Anggi.
The event was also enlivened by student performances. One highlight was the traditional sapu lidi dance, which symbolizes the importance of cleanliness and environmental care.
In addition, students conducted a waste-sorting campaign, delivering educational messages through speeches and creative posters focused on waste segregation and management.
