WEST BANGKA -- As part of its commitment to supporting education and human resource development, PT Timah once again welcomed a field visit from dozens of mining engineering students from Jambi University to the Processing and Refinery Division in Mentok, West Bangka, on Wednesday (May 7, 2025).
The field visit, attended by 39 students and four lecturers, was part of a learning program where students had the opportunity to observe and learn directly about tin processing, smelting, and refining at PT Timah.
In addition to witnessing the tin processing firsthand, the students will also visit production suction dredgers, bucket dredgers, and onshore mines to gain insights into PT Timah’s mining operations.
The group leader and mining engineering lecturer, Yudi Arista, said that PT Timah’s business processes are very comprehensive, ranging from mining and processing to refining. This makes it easier for students to study the entire value chain.
“During this field visit, students can observe and learn directly about all aspects, from mining to refining. The entire upstream to downstream process is complete here,” he said.
According to him, this is the second time Jambi University has conducted a field visit to PT Timah, as a previous group of students visited last year.
“Students who participated last year said the experience was very impressive. This year’s group was recommended to come by the previous cohort,” he added.
One of the participating students, Yurma Syaftiani, said she was impressed by PT Timah’s business operations. She noted that while they had studied the theory in class, this visit allowed them to see the real-life process.
“It turns out that the process from raw material to final product is quite extensive, and we saw it firsthand. PT Timah was also very welcoming and provided detailed explanations. Besides that, PT Timah has introduced new innovations in mining. I wish PT Timah continued success and prosperity,” said Yurma.
