* PT Timah Tbk assistance

SELATAN BANGKA – Vannamei shrimp is currently a prima donna commodity in Bangka Belitung, this export quality shrimp has an economical price. Seeing this opportunity, PT Timah Tbk through CSR empowered the Fish Cultivation Group or Pokdakan Pemuda Mandiri to cultivate vannamei shrimp.

The Fish Cultivation Group or Pokdakan Pemuda Mandiri developed vannamei shrimp cultivation with a biofloc system located on Jalan Merdeka, Tanjung Ketapang Village, Toboali District, South Bangka Regency.

"The assistance provided by PT Timah is very complete, ranging from tarpaulin ponds, installation of KWH, feed, fry, oxygen pumps, to PT Timah Tbk's first venture capital," said a member of the Fish Cultivation Group or Pokdakan Pemuda Mandiri Akbar Jaya, while checking the water content in the biofloc pond when found, Monday (31/1/2022).

A total of two units of biofloc with a pond diameter of five meters and other facilities were provided by PT Timah Tbk to the Fish Cultivation Group or Pokdakan Pemuda Mandiri. Pokdakan Pemuda Mandiri released 20,000 fry, with a composition of 10,000 fry per pond.

With their persistence and knowledge gained from several pieces of training and seminars they attend, Pokdakan Pemuda Mandiri is confident that their business will be successful.

"In our experience, we don't have it yet, but from the training we have attended, we are 90% sure that the vaname shrimp cultivation is successful," said Akbar.

He said, for the initial stage, they need about two weeks to one month to make the water conditions according to the pH needed to spread Vannamei shrimp fry.

Water is one of the vital things in this cultivation because water conditions must comply with standards. If it is not suitable, it will have an impact on stress and can even cause the shrimp fry to die.

“We are very grateful to PT Timah Tbk, with the assistance given to our group. We hope that PT Timah can help the youths in Bangka Belitung to continue to advance," said Akbar.

Akbar explained, vannamei shrimp has a high economic value, the price per kilogram of vannamei shrimp with super quality can reach Rp. 150 thousand, while for the ordinary quality it is priced at Rp. 70 thousand per kilogram.

"For the super type, the market is Rp. 150,000, - while the usual quality is in the range of Rp. 70,000," concluded Akbar.
With this vannamei shrimp cultivation program, it is hoped that it will have an economic impact on group members and the surrounding community. (**)
