SOUTH BANGKA -- The community empowerment program with youth groups carried out by PT Timah continues. This is to support the creativity of young people and also provide added economic value for communities around the mine.
One of the youth communities embraced by PT Timah is the Working Youth Youth Community (Papaya) in Rias Village, South Bangka Regency. The Papaya Community processes used goods into valuable products.
Previously, PT Timah had supported the Papaya community by helping to renovate their workshop to produce various crafts from used goods.
Members of the MIND ID Mining Industry holding again handed over carpentry tools such as drills, screws, compressors and others to support the creativity of young people in processing used goods.
This carpentry tool assistance was handed over directly by the Head of PT Timah's Land Mining Supervision Section, Dani Kushendriana, to the Chairman of the Papaya Community, Iwan Sanjaya, who was also witnessed by the Head of Rias Muslim Village, at the Papaya Community Workshop in Rias Village, South Bangka Regency on Tuesday (20/8/2024) .
Iwan said that previously their community members, numbering 15 people, had difficulty processing used items due to limited tools, but now with the help of carpentry equipment they can process various used items into crafts.
According to him, the assistance from PT Timah also empowers the economy and provides employment opportunities for young men and women in Rias Village.
According to him, with increasingly complete carpentry equipment they can process used goods or rubbish into rupiah. Various unique products are produced from used goods, such as miniatures, decorative lamps, plaques, and even face paintings.
Currently, they are just marketing their products generally. He hopes that PT Timah can help in marketing and providing training for the Papaya community.
"Hopefully in the future, we can be helped to market our products abroad and provide training for the Papaya Community so that we can develop in the future," he said.
One member of the Papaya Baharudin Community admitted that he was happy with this assistance, his productivity at work increased and he was able to produce more products.
“The difference I felt was very significant. "Usually we produce goods for a limited time, but now we can do it until the evening because we have the space provided by PT Timah," he said.
Baharudin said that with this workshop, it could provide employment opportunities for young people in Rias Village to help in the production of used goods.
"Thank you to PT Timah for wanting to care and help our small community in Rias Village. "We hope that in the future we can partner sustainably, not just stop here," concluded Iwan.
Meanwhile, the Head of Rias Muslim Village said that the benefits of the program implemented by PT Timah have been felt and young people can channel their creativity and develop other products.
