WEST BANGKA -- To support fishing activities, PT Timah Tbk handed over 10 units of 9.8 PK outboard engines to the Bakit Coastal Community Forum (FMPB) Bakit Village, Parittiga District, West Bangka Regency, Friday (16/12/2022).
FMPB Secretary Joni Fadlan said the outboard engine would be given to fishing communities who need it.
Joni said that there are many fishermen in their village whose engines have been damaged. So they decided to ask for help from PT Timah Tbk.
"Only 10 units have been assisted, later the assistance will be given in stages. We will prioritize those that get the engines which often break down," he said.
According to Joni, so far many fishermen still use 3.5 PK outboard engines. So they don't dare to go out too far and their catches are not maximized.
"It is not yet possible to buy large machines because the catch is only enough for daily needs," he said.
One of the fishermen who received the outboard engine, Sudarman appreciated the outboard engine assistance from PT Timah Tbk. Without help from PT Timah, he can't buy a 9.8 PK engine with enough catch for his daily needs.
"So far it's only been a dream and that dream has come true today. Hopefully, PT Timah's production output will continue to increase and continue to be victorious," he hoped.
