PANGKALPINANG – As part of its commitment to ensuring the sustainability of the national tin industry, PT Timah continues to expand its exploration efforts to increase tin resources and reserves.
With mining operations conducted both offshore and onshore, PT Timah is aggressively pursuing exploration activities on land and at sea.
PT Timah’s Corporate Secretary, Rendi Kurniawan, stated that in 2025, the company has set several exploration targets, including detailed exploration of deep alluvial deposits and upgrading primary tin resource classifications on land. Meanwhile, offshore exploration will focus on intensifying surveys along coastal areas.
"Exploration is an integral part of PT Timah Tbk’s business process. TINS is conducting extensive exploration both on land and at sea to discover new tin resources and reserves," Rendi explained.
He emphasized that exploration plays a crucial role in maintaining production sustainability and supporting the growth of downstream industries.
PT Timah is adopting geophysical technology, drone mapping, and 3D modeling to achieve more accurate and efficient exploration targets.
Additionally, PT Timah is developing new technologies by integrating AI for mineral analysis and satellite imagery-based resource monitoring. Utilizing Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USV) for bathymetric surveys is also a strategic step to enhance process efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
"Advanced technology is a key factor in successful exploration. With more detailed and accurate data, the company can design a more precise drilling strategy while minimizing environmental impact," he added.
To optimize exploration and develop valuable by-products contained in tin deposits, PT Timah is improving its sampling methods to inventory Associated Tin Minerals (MIT) and optimizing coring drilling in offshore areas.
"PT Timah is now also focusing on developing associated tin minerals, starting from upstream exploration by mapping MIT more comprehensively," Rendi concluded. (*)
