KUNDUR - PT Timah continues to be committed to maintaining the marine ecosystem and supporting the sustainability of fisheries resources for the fishing community through the release of mangrove crab seeds in Kundur Waters, Riau Islands Province.
Members of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding PT Timah released 1100 mangrove crab seedlings in the waters of Kundur and Karimun, on Tuesday (3/18/2025).
Previously, PT Timah Kundur Area had also released 300 mangrove crab seeds on March 7, 2025. The release of mangrove crab seedlings is a routine program carried out by PT Timah to maintain coastal ecosystems while providing economic impacts for the community.
It is known that mangrove crabs play an important role in coastal ecosystems, especially mangrove forests. PT Timah also routinely carries out mangrove planting, so the release of mangrove crabs can support mangrove growth.
In addition, mangrove crabs are one of the fishery commodities that have the potential to support the lives of the community, especially for fishermen. Mangrove crabs include coastal fisheries resources that have high economic value.
Through the release of crab seedlings in Kundur and Karimun Waters, it is hoped that it will not only maintain the coastal ecosystem and improve the welfare of fishermen but also maintain the availability of mangrove crab populations.
One of the Kundur Village Fishermen, Amad, said that he was very happy with the release of mangrove crabs by PT Timah because it could increase the population of mangrove crabs.
With the increase in the mangrove crab population, it also has an impact on their catch, so that it can improve their welfare.
“Currently, there are many mangrove crabs around the Kundur Sea. So fishermen when netting besides getting fish sometimes often get crabs, so there is additional income for fishermen because it sells quickly, there are many enthusiasts, the price is also not bad,” Ahmad said. (*)
