KEPULAUAN MERANTI -- To support fishermen’s productivity, PT TIMAH Tbk has provided fishing gear assistance to KUB Karya Bersatu in Topang Village, Kepulauan Meranti Regency.
This assistance reflects PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to improving the welfare of coastal communities. With the new fishing nets, it is hoped that fishermen can increase their catch.
The Chairman of KUB Karya Bersatu, Atan Amin, said that the nets from PT TIMAH Tbk will be distributed to the group’s ten members.
According to Atan, the fishermen were in great need of new nets, as many of the existing ones were damaged. However, purchasing new nets requires a significant amount of money.
“We are grateful for PT TIMAH Tbk’s assistance because many of our fishermen’s nets are damaged. Some got snagged and broke. Thankfully, the nets provided by PT TIMAH Tbk are very helpful,” he said.
Going forward, he hopes that PT TIMAH Tbk will continue to support fishermen so they can increase their catch and improve their welfare.
Previously, PT TIMAH Tbk has consistently provided fishing equipment assistance in its operational areas, such as outboard engines, infrastructure improvements for fishermen including mooring dock bridges, and social security for fishermen through BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Through these programs, the company hopes to strengthen synergy between the mining sector and coastal communities in line with sustainable development goals in its operational regions.
