PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah Agro Manunggal (TAM) is holding a Tegek Class fishing competition which will be held under a former mine in PT Timah Tbk's Jangkang Water Reclamation Village, Sunday (29/1/2022).
Hundreds of anglers have registered for fishing events which will be held in areas of former mining land that have been transformed into tourist areas that carry the concept of edu eco-tourism.
This fishing event is also a place to educate the public that ex-mines can be used for fish ponds.
The head of the organizing committee, Anugrah said PT TAM held this fishing event because currently many people like fishing.
"The participants will be fishing in the fish pond which is under the former mine. So this event is also educating the public that the former mine can be used for fish ponds," he said.
He said that to turn a former mining pond into a pond, it needs to be treated, such as arranging fireplaces on the edges of the pit, then adding compost and dolomite.
"Initially the pH under the pit was acidic, now the Ph is close to neutral. Algae have grown and fish live in the former pit," he said.
Anugrah hopes that with this fishing activity, the Kampoeng Air Jangkang Reclamation will become better known to the public.
"With more and more Kampoeng Air Reclamation events, Jangkang will be increasingly recognized by the public and can become a choice of tourist destination," he hoped.
