Hundreds of Jambi University Mining Engineering Students Take Field Lectures at PT Timah's Mentok Metallurgical Unit

WEST BANGKA -- A total of 125 Mining Engineering Students from Jambi University carried out open mining field courses at PT Timah's Mentok Metallurgical Unit, on Thursday (2/5/2024).

The arrival of the students who were accompanied by six lecturers was received directly by the Head of the Processing and Smelting Division of PT Timah Sofian Simangunsong at Wisma Sriwijaya Unmet.

On this occasion, the Deputy Head of the Processing and Smelting Division of PT Timah Kopdi Saragih explained the processing and smelting process at PT Timah which was followed by a discussion.

Hundreds of students also saw firsthand the tin processing and smelting process that took place in the Metallurgical Unit.

Coordinator of the Mining Engineering Study Program. M. Ikrar Lagowa, S.T., M.Eng.Sc. said that the activity of fourth-semester students visiting PT Timah was part of the field study or excursion as part of the open-pit mining course.

"The purpose of our visit is, after these students have studied in class, they hope to be able to see firsthand how open-pit mining is carried out or operated," he said.

Apart from carrying out a visit to PT Timah, previously they visited a coal mine at a mining company in the Sungaililin area.

"The aim is apart from PT Timah's open pit mine, spray mine or sea mine, suction vessel, and dredger, we also visited the Metallurgical Processing and Smelting Unit," he explained. (*)
