BANGKA -- PT TIMAH Tbk continues to demonstrate its commitment to social and humanitarian initiatives through collaborations with local communities. One such initiative is its support for the Blood Donor Community of Belinyu District, Bangka Regency, which has played an active role in helping meet the blood needs of patients in the area.
Established approximately eight years ago, the community now has 91 active members from Belinyu and Riau Silip districts. The group plays an important role in assisting the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and local hospitals in maintaining an adequate blood supply, particularly for patients who require regular blood transfusions.
Andrea, Chairperson of the Belinyu Blood Donor Community, said PT TIMAH has collaborated with the community on several occasions, including supporting mass blood donation drives and providing food assistance packages for blood donors and underprivileged residents.
"PT TIMAH has been a tremendous support to our activities. In addition to supporting mass blood donation events, the company has also contributed food assistance packages. Support like this is invaluable in helping our community continue to grow," Andrea said.
According to Andrea, the community's efforts extend beyond organizing blood donation campaigns. With PT TIMAH's support, they have also been able to distribute food packages to thalassemia patients and other people in need.
She explained that thalassemia patients, who require regular blood transfusions, are among the community's primary concerns, along with kidney failure patients undergoing hemodialysis and individuals with other medical conditions requiring blood transfusions.
"One of our biggest challenges is finding blood donors. That's why we continue educating the public, including students at schools such as SMAN 1 Pemali, to encourage more young people to understand the importance of blood donation," she said.
Andrea added that PT TIMAH's support for blood donors serves as a form of appreciation for the dedicated volunteers who regularly donate blood to help others.
"We hope PT TIMAH will continue supporting our initiatives so that these humanitarian activities can reach even more people. We also hope that blood availability in Bangka Regency will continue to improve, allowing patients' needs to be met more quickly," she concluded. (*)
