KARIMUN -- To help ease medical expenses for communities within its operational areas, PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk provided medical assistance for Habibi, a four-month-old baby from Gemuruh Village, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency, who is currently undergoing treatment for Hirschsprung disease.
This medical assistance for those in need is a tangible form of PT TIMAH’s commitment to helping the community.
Abdul Wahab, Habibi’s father, expressed his gratitude for the medical assistance provided by PT TIMAH for his son, who was diagnosed with Hirschsprung disease, a disorder affecting the large intestine.
Wahab explained that Habibi began experiencing health problems before he was even one month old. Initially, Habibi’s stomach appeared swollen and bloated. His condition became more concerning when he was unable to have a bowel movement for nearly a week and experienced continuous vomiting.
Seeing his condition, his parents immediately took Habibi to the nearest community health center. However, because his symptoms did not improve, the health center referred Habibi to the regional hospital in Karimun Regency.
“At first, his bowel movements were normal, but his stomach remained bloated. After receiving treatment in Karimun, we were referred again to a hospital in Batam,” said Abdul Wahab.
In Batam, Habibi underwent a series of medical examinations, ranging from X-rays to a biopsy. Based on those examinations, doctors confirmed that Habibi had Hirschsprung disease.
The medical team then decided that surgery was necessary as part of the treatment process. Abdul Wahab was grateful that the operation, which took place about three months ago, went smoothly.
“Alhamdulillah, the surgery was successful. Now Habibi is still in the recovery process and must continue routine check-ups in Batam,” he said.
As a street vendor supporting four children, Abdul Wahab admitted that the costs of treatment and travel for routine check-ups have become a major challenge for his family. In addition to medical expenses, accommodation costs while staying in Batam also require a significant amount of money.
“If we have to stay in Batam for several days, the expenses become quite large. Meanwhile, I only earn enough from selling goods to cover our daily needs,” he explained.
Amid these economic limitations, the medical assistance from PT TIMAH has greatly eased the family’s burden.
“With this assistance, Alhamdulillah, we have been greatly helped with accommodation and Habibi’s continued medical treatment,” he said.
Abdul Wahab also hopes that this kind of support can continue so that more people, especially those facing health problems and financial hardship, can receive help.
“Our hope for the future is that PT TIMAH can continue helping communities in need,” he concluded. (*)
