BANGKA BARAT -- In commemoration of World Environment Day 2025, PT Timah Tbk, through its Division of Processing and Refinery, carried out a tangible environmental conservation effort by planting 500 trees in a former mining area in Gemuruh, Mentok, West Bangka Regency, on Friday, (20/6/2025).
The activity involved PT Timah employees, led directly by the Division Head of Processing and Refinery, Sofian Simangunsong. The tree planting was conducted in collaboration with the Tanjung Jaya Farmers Group Association (Gapoktan) in Mentok.
Hundreds of trees such as cashew, beach pine, and ketapang were planted, all of which have ecological functions in improving environmental quality and preventing landslides.
Tree planting is one of the company’s commitments to preserving the environment.
“Last year, we planted trees in Tanjung Ular, and this year we continued in the former mining area of Gemuruh. The goal is to re-green the area and prevent further environmental damage,” said PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan.
In addition to tree planting, PT Timah also promotes awareness of waste management among its employees. Employees in the Mentok Area were encouraged to sort their waste and become members of the local Waste Bank.
“Waste management starts internally within the company. The hope is that this can also educate and motivate the surrounding community to care more about the environment,” he added.
Hendrik, Chairman of the Tanjung Jaya Gapoktan, welcomed the initiative and appreciated the ongoing collaboration.
“PT Timah always involves us in reforestation activities. We feel valued and are grateful for the company’s concern for both the community and the environment,” he said.
Similarly, Bahara, a member of the Gapoktan, considered PT Timah to be a company that consistently demonstrates concern for the environment.
“This tree planting is real proof that PT Timah cares about environmental sustainability and the welfare of the surrounding community,” he said.
Through this activity, PT Timah once again reaffirms its commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly mining as part of its corporate social responsibility.
