Gotong Royong for Merah Putih: PT Timah and Belitung Local Government Collaborate to Keep Pantai Nyiur Melambai Tourist Site Clean

BELITUNG TIMUR -- In celebration of its 49th anniversary, PT Timah Tbk collaborated with the East Belitung Regency Government and local communities to carry out a community clean-up at Pantai Nyiur Melambai, located in Lalang Village, on Thursday (July 25, 2025).

Carrying the theme “For Merah Putih,” the clean-up involved hundreds of participants from various groups, including PT Timah employees, the military and police (TNI and Polri), students, youth organizations, and local residents.

This community effort is part of PT Timah’s ongoing commitment to environmental conservation, particularly in tourism areas that are valuable regional assets. It also serves as a contribution to support the tourism sector in East Belitung.

The joint clean-up managed to collect approximately 533 kilograms of organic and inorganic waste. The inorganic waste will be recycled.

This collaborative effort was appreciated by Zikril, Acting Assistant for Economic and Development Affairs of East Belitung Regency, who represented the Regent. He acknowledged PT Timah’s consistent role in supporting regional development through concrete environmental actions.

"The government can't work alone. Collaborations like this are essential, especially given our limited resources," said Zikril.

He explained that Pantai Nyiur Melambai was chosen as the activity location due to its great tourism potential and the need for sustainable management. According to him, preserving tourist areas must be a shared responsibility among all community elements.

"We hope Pantai Nyiur Melambai continues to be managed collectively by local residents, the village, and youth organizations. A clean environment starts with small habits, like throwing trash in the right place," he added.

PT Timah's Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that this clean-up effort is part of the company’s commitment to sustainable environmental management and preservation.

"PT Timah collaborates with various parties to implement environmental management, one of which is this joint clean-up at a tourist destination. We hope this collaboration supports both tourism and environmental conservation," said Anggi.

On this occasion, PT Timah also donated cleaning equipment, including 10 grass-cutting machines and 30 trash bins. These were distributed to local governments, villages, schools, and active youth and community organizations involved in maintaining environmental cleanliness.

In addition to the clean-up activity, PT Timah will also hold a Health Week to celebrate its 49th anniversary at Pantai Nyiur Melambai, featuring a series of social events and entertainment for the people of Belitung Island.

Previously, PT Timah’s 49th Anniversary Community Service Month activities in Belitung also included blood donation drives and the deployment of the PT Timah Mobile Health Clinic.
