Getting to Know Tin Mining Up Close, Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025 Visits PT TIMAH Tbk

PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH Tbk welcomed participants of Duta Minerba Goes to Site 2025, a program by the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal (Ditjen Minerba) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), which brings together students from various universities across Indonesia to directly observe good mining practices and the company’s community empowerment programs.

This activity is part of a series of Duta Minerba visits to various mining companies in Indonesia. PT TIMAH Tbk was selected as one of the destinations for the Duta Minerba 2025 site visit.

The students will visit PT TIMAH Tbk’s business operations and the company’s Community Empowerment Program from Wednesday to Friday (December 3–5, 2025).

Duta Minerba escort, Esti Rahayu, expressed her appreciation to PT TIMAH Tbk for providing the opportunity for the Duta Minerba participants to observe the company’s business processes firsthand.

“Thank you to PT TIMAH Tbk for being willing to host Duta Minerba. Last week we visited a coal company, and this time the students can directly witness tin mining activities,” she said.

She explained that the Duta Minerba program involves outstanding students from various universities. They were selected by the Society of Renewable Energy (SRE) from campuses across Indonesia, from Aceh to Papua, and have a strong interest in the mining sector and social media.

“We want the students not only to understand mining business processes but also to directly observe community empowerment programs. They are expected to create content and write pieces that spread positive narratives about good mining practices,” Esti added.

She noted that aside from visiting PT TIMAH Tbk, the Duta Minerba participants had also observed mining operations at several other mining companies.

“This is a rare opportunity. Not everyone has the chance to enter a mining site. We hope the students make the best use of this experience,” she said.

She emphasized that mining activities need to be understood comprehensively. The content produced by the students is expected to help the public learn about the benefits of responsibly managed mining.

Meanwhile, PT TIMAH Tbk Corporate Secretary Rendi Kurniawan expressed his appreciation that PT TIMAH Tbk was chosen as one of the Duta Minerba visit locations.

“This is an outstanding first event and a great step in giving students firsthand experience. We are proud to be part of this program. We hope the participants can produce positive content during their visit to PT TIMAH’s site,” Rendi said.

During the occasion, Rendi also presented the company profile, its business processes, post-mining programs, and community development programs (PPM).

The Duta Minerba participants showed enthusiasm in learning about PT TIMAH Tbk’s business operations. They actively sought deeper information and asked questions during the discussion session.

Dhafir Athallah, a student from the University of Indonesia, expressed his curiosity about tin mining operations. For him, this was an extraordinary opportunity, especially since it was his first time visiting the Tin Island.

“I’m really excited based on the itinerary we received, as we will be visiting a suction dredger and several operational sites of PT TIMAH Tbk, including the company’s PPM programs. I’m also interested in seeing firsthand how the mining operations work and their contributions to the community. This is a new experience for me,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nanda Nuzula Khairunnisa, an Environmental Engineering student at ITB, said she was very eager to directly observe PT TIMAH Tbk’s business operations and the company’s role in improving community welfare.

“I’m very enthusiastic because I want to see firsthand how PT TIMAH operates. I want to understand how mining can coexist with community welfare and environmental protection,” she said. (*)
