Gernas Tastaka and Teacher Literacy: PT TIMAH Tbk’s Efforts to Improve Teacher Professionalism

PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH Tbk continues to strengthen its contribution to improving the quality of education in the company’s operational areas. One of these efforts is providing various training programs to enhance teachers’ competence and quality.

Through the Teacher Literacy Program and the National Movement to Eradicate Math Illiteracy (Gernas Tastaka), PT TIMAH Tbk supports improving teacher quality through training initiatives.

PT TIMAH Tbk acknowledges that teachers play a central role in shaping future generations. Therefore, enhancing educators’ capacity has become one of the company’s priorities under the education pillar of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program.

The Teacher Literacy Program and Gernas Tastaka are initiatives provided by PT TIMAH Tbk that target teachers across various educational levels in the company’s operational areas. Hundreds of teachers have participated in these programs.

To carry out the Gernas Tastaka program, PT TIMAH Tbk collaborates with the Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas Foundation and the local Education Offices in its operational regions. Meanwhile, the Teacher Literacy Program is conducted in collaboration with the Sekawan Literacy Community.

The Teacher Literacy Program aims to encourage teachers to meet competency standards in line with professional demands and the development of science, technology, and the arts, ultimately supporting teacher professionalism.

This program is expected to positively impact teachers’ performance in the classroom and inspire students to become independent, responsible, creative, and innovative learners, contributing to improved human resources.

Meanwhile, the Gernas Tastaka program is PT TIMAH Tbk’s initiative to enhance education quality, particularly in basic mathematics instruction, within its operational areas.

Diki, one of the teachers who participated in the Teacher Literacy Program, said that the Timah Teaching Program was very interesting and relevant to be implemented in schools.

“The material was very useful. We gained new insights into how to properly write popular scientific articles. We will apply this knowledge at school, both in the teaching and learning process and among fellow teachers,” said the SDN 5 Jebus teacher recently.

Similarly, Helen Moriska, a teacher at SDN 5 Parittiga, shared that she gained many new insights throughout the Timah Teaching Program.

“Alhamdulillah, we gained a lot of literacy knowledge. Moving forward, we plan to submit our work to local and national media. We hope this program continues and reaches even more people, including the broader community,” she said.

Meanwhile, Alias, a teacher at SDN 19 Tempilang, said he plans to implement the materials he received with his students.

“At first, we didn’t understand how to write popular scientific articles. Thanks to this program, we are now more motivated. We hope PT TIMAH continues to facilitate similar training in other areas of education,” he said.

Similarly, Ermawati, a teacher at SDN 10 Jebus, said the program served as a platform for improving teacher competence.

“We now understand the importance of writing popular scientific articles. Hopefully, through this training, we can contribute our opinions and perspectives for the advancement of West Bangka,” she said.
