BELITUNG TIMUR — PT TIMAH continues to demonstrate its commitment to preserving coastal environments through a mangrove planting program at Mudong Beach, Selingsing Village, Gantung District, East Belitung Regency, on Thursday (May 21, 2026).
Through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) program, the company planted 5,000 mangrove seedlings as part of efforts to protect coastal ecosystems while reducing the impacts of abrasion and climate change.
The activity was carried out in collaboration with the Mulya Mandiri Forest Farmer Group of Selingsing Village and involved the local government as well as surrounding communities.
The mangrove planting initiative represents a concrete step by PT TIMAH in supporting the preservation of coastal areas that have long faced the threat of abrasion.
Assistant II for Economy and Development of East Belitung Regency, Ikhwan Fahrozi, appreciated PT TIMAH’s concern for the coastal environment through the mangrove planting action at Mudong Beach.
According to him, the program not only contributes to environmental sustainability but also provides long-term benefits for surrounding communities.
“Every year, coastal areas experience abrasion. PT TIMAH’s concern is reflected through collaboration with the community forest farmer group of Selingsing Village by carrying out mangrove planting,” he said.
He hopes the mangrove planting program will not stop at the planting stage alone, but will also include monitoring and maintenance so that the mangroves can grow optimally and eventually restore the mangrove forest area.
“Our coastline continues to experience erosion, so mangrove planting must be maintained together to create a real impact in protecting coastal areas,” he added.
Head of Selingsing Village, Haryanto, welcomed the involvement of the community in the environmental preservation activity.
He considered the collaboration established by PT TIMAH and the community as a form of the company’s concern for its operational areas.
“We are grateful that Selingsing Village was involved in this mangrove planting activity. Collaborations like this are very positive for the community,” he said.
Haryanto hopes that PT TIMAH will continue to present environmental and community empowerment programs that provide sustainable benefits for local residents.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Mulya Mandiri Forest Farmer Group of Selingsing Village, Iil, expressed gratitude that his group was entrusted to provide 5,000 green-tip mangrove seedlings for the activity.
According to him, the southern season is the ideal time for mangrove planting because the growth success rate is relatively high.
“If planted in the morning, the mangrove survival rate can reach around 80 percent,” he explained.
Through the planting of thousands of mangrove seedlings, PT TIMAH hopes to contribute to maintaining the balance of coastal ecosystems, reducing abrasion, and strengthening synergy between the company and the community in preserving the environment sustainably. (*)
