From East Belitung to Indonesia Gold 2045, PT TIMAH Tbk and the Pengincer Foundation Hold Gernas Tastaka Phase 2 Training for Elementary School Teachers in East Belitung

EAST BELITUNG -- PT TIMAH Tbk once again demonstrated its commitment to supporting improvements in education quality by organizing the Gernas Tastaka Phase 2 Training for 80 elementary school teachers in East Belitung Regency.

The program, implemented in collaboration with the Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas Foundation (Pengincer), represents PT TIMAH Tbk’s ongoing effort to strengthen literacy and numeracy as the foundation for developing high-quality human resources toward Indonesia Gold 2045.

The Gernas Tastaka Phase 2 Training was held on January 20–22, 2026, at SDN 13 Manggar and SDN 1 Gantong, East Belitung Regency, and was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants.

The Director of Teachers and Education Personnel (GTK) of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr. Drs. Rachmadi Widdiharto, MA, stated during the training preparation socialization session held the previous week that the Gernas Tastaka Training in East Belitung is an outstanding initiative in supporting the success of the National Numeracy Movement (GNN).

He revealed that the results of international assessments such as PISA, which Indonesia has participated in from 2000 to 2023, as well as national assessments such as TKA, still indicate significant challenges in Indonesian students’ numeracy skills.

Rachmadi explained that Gernas Tastaka is one of the government’s important partners in what he referred to as “Universal Participation,” as the government has limitations in reaching all regions of Indonesia.

“Numeracy is not merely the ability to calculate, but also the ability to think logically and analytically. To build this, collaboration among schools, families, communities, and the media is essential,” Rachmadi explained.

He encouraged teachers to instill the understanding that mathematics is part of everyday life and expressed hope that teachers participating in the program would be able to foster students’ love for mathematics.

“From the moment we wake up, we are actually already involved in numeracy, such as calculating time, distance to school, and so on,” he said.

Chairman of the Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas Foundation (Pengincer), Ahmad Sururi Aziz, expressed his appreciation to the government and PT TIMAH Tbk for supporting the program.

“Gernas Tastaka is an initiative to support government programs, driven by shared concerns and aspirations so that teachers can participate in preparing the Indonesia Gold generation in 2045,” he said.

According to him, the Pengincer Foundation together with PT TIMAH Tbk has implemented this program since 2024 and continues it this year. In the future, the program will not only be carried out in East Belitung Regency, but is also planned to be replicated in other operational areas of the company.

“PT TIMAH Tbk’s commitment to supporting the Gernas Tastaka program is a collective step to strengthen literacy and numeracy and enhance teacher competencies, especially since the target participants are elementary school teachers who will later implement this in their schools for their students,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Corporate Communication Department of PT TIMAH Tbk, Anggi Siahaan, stated that PT TIMAH Tbk remains committed to improving the quality of human resources, one of which is through sustainable education programs.

“PT TIMAH Tbk continues to be committed to realizing the Indonesia Gold 2045 vision, one of which is through programs to enhance teacher competencies through training. The company is also committed to implementing education programs, including scholarships and improvements to school facilities and infrastructure,” Anggi said.

Head of the Teacher and Education Personnel Development Division of the East Belitung Regency Education Office, Renni Lestari, S.Pd., stated that the Gernas Tastaka Phase 1 Training conducted in 2024 was highly beneficial in improving teacher quality and competence.

“I hope the results of this training will continue and have an impact on other educators throughout East Belitung Regency,” she said.

Previously, teachers who participated in Phase 1 of the Gernas Tastaka Training at the end of 2024 continued with implementation mentoring for approximately one semester. In Phase 1, participants studied three modules over three days, namely the Basic Principles of Learning Mathematics, Numbers, and Geometry.

Meanwhile, in this Phase 2, which also runs for three days, participants will continue with discussions on Measurement, Statistics and Probability, as well as Assessment in Mathematics Learning.

Through its support for the Gernas Tastaka Training, PT TIMAH Tbk reaffirms its role in building a strong education ecosystem as a long-term investment to create an intelligent, literate, and highly competitive generation in the company’s operational areas. (*)
