PANGKALPINANG – In the world of entrepreneurship, adaptability often becomes the key to success. With perseverance and support from PT Timah's Micro and Small Business Funding Program (PUMK), Nuriah, a foster partner of PT Timah, has successfully turned challenges into opportunities.
When the Covid-19 pandemic struck, it pushed Nuriah to adapt and pivot her business.
Initially, Nuriah was in the clothing business and became a foster partner of PT Timah in 2020. However, the pandemic adversely affected her clothing business at the time.
"When I first became a foster partner of PT Timah in 2020, the pandemic hit, and my clothing business slowed down with little growth. Eventually, in 2021, I shifted to the coconut pressing business," she explained.
Nuriah shared that her inspiration to start a coconut pressing business came from her relative, who had already ventured into the same field.
"I saw my relative running a coconut pressing business, and it seemed very promising with high demand. So, I decided to take the plunge and start my own coconut pressing business," she said.
As a foster partner of PT Timah, Nuriah feels greatly supported by the PUMK program. Her coconut pressing business, named "Bintang Peras Kelapa," has been running for three years now and continues to grow.
"I first learned about PT Timah's PUMK program from a friend who also helped me become one of PT Timah's foster partners. Alhamdulillah, PT Timah's program has been a tremendous help for small entrepreneurs like us," she expressed.
Nuriah's coconut pressing business not only offers coconut grating services but also provides pure coconut milk for making food and beverages using high-quality coconuts. "Bintang Peras Kelapa" is also ready to supply coconuts and coconut milk to restaurants and pastry industries in Pangkalpinang and surrounding areas. (*)
