Free Healthcare Services, Educational Scholarships, and Cultural Preservation: PT Timah’s Touch for Community Welfare

PANGKALPINANG -- PT Timah is not only managing natural tin resources but also cultivating hope and growing together with communities in its operational areas.

Through the Community Development and Empowerment Program (PPM), PT Timah, a member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding, remains committed to fostering self-reliance among local residents across various sectors.

PT Timah implements a wide range of PPM programs in its operational areas, addressing aspects such as the economy, health, education, agriculture, culture, women’s empowerment, and sustainable environmental practices.

In carrying out its PPM initiatives, PT Timah also focuses on optimizing the potential of local communities, allowing them to be nurtured and developed in ways that create direct impact.

Among PT Timah’s educational programs is the provision of scholarships through the Pemali Boarding School initiative.

In the health sector, PT Timah regularly offers medical services through the Mobil Sehat (Health Mobile), which has reached thousands of people in remote areas since it was launched in 2020.

In agriculture, PT Timah has supported the GAPOKTAN Sinar Baru group in South Bangka Regency in cultivating chili peppers on a large scale. The goal is to support food self-sufficiency programs and meet the demand for local chili supply.

To help preserve indigenous culture, PT Timah has partnered with the Mapur Customary Institution to build and develop the Gebong Memarong traditional village in Air Abik Hamlet, Bangka Regency.

In terms of the environment, PT Timah consistently organizes mangrove planting efforts in collaboration with local communities in its operational areas to protect coastal ecosystems.

Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah, stated that business sustainability must go hand in hand with social responsibility. The PPM program is a testament to the company’s commitment to grow alongside communities.

"The company is committed to running integrated programs that encourage community self-reliance by developing their existing potential," said Anggi.

Anggi hopes that PT Timah’s PPM programs will contribute to improving community welfare.

"We are committed to continuously listening to community needs and adapting our programs to ensure they are truly effective," he added.

Meanwhile, Amir, the chairman of GAPOKTAN Sinar Baru, shared that since 2023, PT Timah has supported the group’s chili farming efforts to strengthen food security in the company's operational areas and enhance local agricultural commodities.

PT Timah’s support for food security aligns with President Prabowo’s Asta Cita vision of achieving food self-sufficiency.

On a 5,000 square meter plot, GAPOKTAN Sinar Baru has planted thousands of chili plants and harvested hundreds of kilograms. Amir noted that their success would not have been possible without PT Timah’s support.

He added that PT Timah not only provided high-quality seeds and agricultural tools but also technical assistance and farm business management training.

Thanks to this support, farmers have been able to manage their land more effectively, boost their yields, and strengthen the local economy.

"PT Timah has provided business capital and technical guidance since 2023, and since then, our harvests have increased and the quality has improved," he said.
