For the Red and White: PT Timah’s Tangible Steps in 49 Years of Supporting National Development

PANGKALPINANG -- For nearly five decades, PT Timah has continued to solidify its role in managing Indonesia’s tin resources. Since its establishment in 1976, PT Timah has played a vital role in national development and community empowerment.

On the occasion of its 49th anniversary on August 2, 2025, PT Timah celebrates the company’s journey with a spirit of nationalism through the theme "Untuk Merah Putih" (For the Red and White). This theme reflects the company’s determination to continue managing natural resources within the framework of Indonesian unity, moving forward together to strengthen sustainable tin mining practices.

Through the spirit of "Untuk Merah Putih", PT Timah remains committed to building synergy and collaboration to safeguard the sovereignty of tin resources so they can be utilized optimally and responsibly for the welfare of the Indonesian people.

The tin produced by PT Timah not only contributes to the country’s foreign exchange through exports but also supports various strategic domestic sectors, including electronics, construction, and defense.

Even amid global dynamics and industrial challenges, PT Timah continues to undergo transformation and strengthen corporate governance to ensure environmentally friendly operations based on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) principles.

PT Timah is not only extracting natural resources but also building the future and advancing civilization. The company is committed to sustainability, rehabilitating former mining sites, and prioritizing transparency and corporate governance to advance as a world-class tin mining company.

Operating in the provinces of Bangka Belitung Islands, Riau, and Riau Islands, PT Timah focuses not only on business performance but also on social and environmental responsibility.

Through various CSR programs that directly impact communities—such as education, healthcare, MSME development, community economy, socio-cultural support, infrastructure development, and environmental preservation—PT Timah ensures sustainable implementation.

The surrounding communities are an inseparable part of the company’s journey. PT Timah has grown and developed alongside the people through various empowerment programs, such as involving fishermen in the construction of fish aggregating devices (rumpon), artificial coral reef planting, and aquaculture development. The company also provides skills training for women in agriculture, waste processing, and entrepreneurship.

With the younger generation, PT Timah runs development programs to nurture creativity and business opportunities, engaging youth in social and environmental activities such as mangrove planting with youth organizations and building workshops.

"At 49 years old, PT Timah’s spirit remains the same as when it was first established—to manage tin for Indonesia. We will continue to strengthen governance, innovate, carry out downstream initiatives, and grow together with the community in the spirit of the Red and White. Of course, this requires support and synergy from all stakeholders," said PT Timah's Director, Restu Widiyantoro.

An anniversary is more than just a celebration—it is a moment of reflection on the company’s long journey in contributing to national development. For decades, PT Timah has played a significant role in Indonesia’s development history, especially in the sustainable and inclusive management of natural resources.

"The mandate from the state to manage tin resources must align with the interests of the country, society, and environmental sustainability. Tin is the metal of the future to support the nation’s civilization," Restu concluded.

As part of its 49th anniversary, PT Timah also held a series of events, including the "Bulan Bakti" (Month of Service) with activities such as social services, free healthcare services, mass circumcision, and blood donation drives across all operational areas. The company also organized a Wellness Week and internal employee sports tournaments.
