Fire Safety Education for Children: PT Timah Fire Department and Alinea Teach How to Handle Fires

BANGKA BARAT – To educate young children about the dangers of fire and how to handle fires, PT Timah, in collaboration with Alinea, a child development service, organized a "Funtasi" event with PT Timah’s Fire Department (Damkar) in Bangka Barat, on Monday, September 23, 2024.

This collaboration aimed to support children's growth and development by teaching them about fire, water, and fire risks in their surroundings. The participants met the activity with great enthusiasm, as noted by Albercio, who expressed his excitement about the event.

"I had so much fun! It was exciting and funny. We learned how to put out a fire with water, played with water, and even got to ride in the fire truck," shared Joshua, another young participant.

Mikael, a parent, also emphasized the importance of the event in teaching children about fire safety and how to remain calm in an emergency.

"This activity teaches children about the dangers of fire and how not to panic if a fire occurs. They now know what to do, like calling for an adult or using a wet towel to extinguish small fires. Even the parents joined in during the Funtasi event," Mikael said.

Funtasy is a regular outdoor activity organized by Alinea, designed to simulate and explore different themes for children aged 3 to 8 years. This time, the theme was "Fire and Water," which aligns with aspects of child development, with PT Timah’s Fire Department actively involved.

Dr. Yovita Sari Metkono, COO of Alinea Child Development, explained that fire safety education is an essential part of a child’s growth.

"The education about fire safety includes understanding fire hazards and how to extinguish a fire, as well as familiarizing children with fire trucks and the equipment used by the fire department," Yovita noted.

She praised PT Timah for supporting early childhood education, particularly in fire safety.

"PT Timah’s fire service made the children happy, and the learning experience was very engaging. The firefighters used humor to teach, and the children got to try out fire safety tools, like putting out a fire with a wet cloth," Yovita added.

Yovita hopes that the partnership between Alinea and PT Timah will continue to provide educational support for children's growth and development.

"We are thrilled to partner with PT Timah, and we hope to continue working together to deliver programs focused on child development," she said.

Previously, PT Timah's Employee Wives Association (IIKT) and Alinea also hosted a parenting seminar on the importance of early childhood development screening. (*)
