Fast Action, PT Timah Tbk Hands Aid to Residents Affected by the Tornado Disaster in Pejem Hamlet, Gunung Pelawan Village

BANGKA - PT Timah Tbk moved quickly to help victims of the tornado in Pejem Hamlet, Gunung Pelawan Village, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency by providing food and material assistance to repair the houses of affected residents.

The assistance was handed over by the Secretary of the Bangka Marine Production Unit to the Head of Gunung Pelawan Village, Tjhiung Kim (50), and residents affected by the disaster in RT 07, Pejem Hamlet, Gunung Pelawan Village, Monday (17/10/2022).

This tornado caused dozens of houses in Pejem Hamlet to be damaged due to being hit by the wind that occurred on Saturday (15/10/2022) at around 11.30 WIB.

This disaster occurred during heavy rains that flushed the village. No one thought that a tornado would hit their village.

The head of Gunung Pelawan Village, Tjhiung Kim (50) said he was amazed by the quick response of PT Timah Tbk in helping their residents who were facing this disaster.

"We have conveyed this incident to various stakeholders and agencies, and thank God PT Timah responded very quickly to help our residents," he said.

According to him, PT Timah provided assistance for the sake of assistance for affected residents, such as basic necessities, cement, asbestos, spandex, and mild steel to repair damaged houses.

"This is very extraordinary for us," said Tjhiung Kim.

He said they thought the heavy rain was like regular rain. Because they have never experienced a hurricane disaster.

"There are about 19 houses that were badly damaged, resulting in cracked roofs," he said.

According to him, various related parties such as BPBD, Tagana, Koramil, and residents have worked for hand in hand to repair the houses of the affected residents. If there are no obstacles, he predicts that the repairs to the houses of the affected residents will be completed in the next three days.

“We cannot repay anything for the assistance that has been given by PT Timah. We are grateful for PT Timah's concern for our residents who were affected by the disaster. Hopefully, all the goodness given this can be rewarded by the almighty God. Hopefully, PT Timah will be even more victorious, and continue to be victorious for our beloved country," he hoped.

Meanwhile, Abdul Muis (68), one of the residents who had suffered injuries due to the rubble of the roof of his house also did not expect the unfortunate incident to be delayed him. Because at the time of the incident he was sleeping.

“At the time of the incident, I was taking a nap. I woke up when I heard the sound of falling asbestos debris. Without me realizing it, there was some asbestos that fell on my head, and caused my forehead and face to be injured due to being hit by asbestos debris," he said.

He told, currently, the roof of his house really has nothing left. So he had to stay at a neighbor's house until the roof of his house was repaired.*
