One of the programs that PT Timah consistently carries out is the Month of Service. Every time before the company's anniversary celebration, PT Timah always holds a Month of Service. Only absent when the COVID-19 pandemic hit Indonesia.
It has been called the Month of Service for a long time, but the programs presented in the Month of Service continue to vary every year. However, they have the same goal, namely to provide meaning to society, the benefits can be felt directly.
PT Timah's Month of Service has become a program that residents look forward to every year, in fact, it is not uncommon for them to memorize the implementation time, which starts from June-August. This is because PT Timah's birthday is celebrated every August 2.
The most anticipated part of PT Timah's Month of Service is the mass circumcision, because every time PT Timah holds a mass circumcision, it provides participants with interesting souvenirs. Some parents even deliberately waited for PT Timah to hold a mass circumcision to circumcise their children.
Around thousands of people have experienced PT Timah's mass circumcision, because every year PT Timah's mass circumcision participants range from 600-700 children.
Welcoming its 48th anniversary, PT Timah's Month of Service was held again at eight points spread across the Riau Islands Province, Bangka Belitung Islands Province and Riau Province.
PT Timah's series of activities for the Month of Service in 2024 include mass circumcisions, blood donations and health services for the community.
During the implementation of the Month of Service in 2024, a total of 892 children were successfully circumcised, 389 blood offices were collected, and 593 health services were provided through Health Cars to residents.
PT Timah's Gempita Month of Service is not only felt by employees and the community. But PT Timah retirees seem to reminisce about PT Timah's journey through the Month of Service activities.
One of the retired employees of PT Timah Sain Achmad said that the Month of Service has been carried out by PT Timah for a long time and repeatedly. Even when he was still working at PT Timah, he was also involved in the Month of Service committee.
Sain said that in the past, all Tin People, starting from the Tin Employees Association (IKT), were involved in working together to implement the Month of Service.
"Bulan Bakti is a form of the company's concern for the community, especially the community in PT Timah's operational areas. This activity has been carried out for a long time and has been carried out repeatedly by the company," said the Treasurer of the Pensionary Cooperative, Peltim Sejahtera (KPPS).
Likewise, PT Timah's retired Turiman said that PT Timah's Month of Service was a program that was beneficial to the community.
"When he was still actively working, the Month of Community Service was held every year by PT Timah. Even though he was less actively involved in committees, he still provided support in Social Service," he explained.
The Month of Service is a series of very good activities and the benefits can be felt directly by the community.
In the future, he hopes that this program can be more like this
mutual cooperation to repair public facilities in the community, damaged bridges, and others.
Bangka Belitung cultural observer Ahmadi Sofyan explained that PT Timah's work in contributing to society was consistent.
"I am quite active in monitoring by always following developments in PT Timah Tbk's activities and programs which are directly in contact with the community, not only during the Timah Anniversary Service Month but also in other months," he said.
Not only that, he said, PT Timah has touched on various programs such as education, health, sports, and economic assistance which have become routine programs by PT Timah Tbk.
"Moreover, the economic condition of Bangka Belitung is still not improving," he said.
According to Ahmadi, PT Timah Tbk is an important part of the history, culture and social life of the Babylonian people.
Talking about Babel, we cannot escape the existence of Timah and PT Timah Tbk. Because the history and culture of Bangka Belitung cannot be separated from the existence of Timah, the existence of PT Timah Tbk must be supported by all elements of society, especially our current stakeholders and community figures.
"We can see how ornaments, architecture, tools, celebrations, art, clothing and so on cannot be separated from the presence of tin. Therefore, the history and culture of Babylon cannot be separated from tin," he concluded.
Looking forward to it every year
Every year, PT Timah's Month of Service is always greeted enthusiastically by the community in operational areas. It is not uncommon for the community to look forward to this series of Months of Service.
Every year the Month of Service is held in the company's operational areas on a rotating basis. This is a form of company presence with the community.
In the Mobile Compact Theme, PT Timah's 48th Anniversary Month of Service was held in eight regions.
The series of activities for the Month of Service which took place from 25 June to 11 July 2024 involved thousands of people.
West Bangka Regent Sukirman said the community was enthusiastic about taking part in this activity and hoped it could continue.
"Thank God, thank you PT Timah for holding various events, especially mass circumcisions. Hopefully, this event will continue and PT Timah will get better. Because the residents are definitely happy and enthusiastic," said Sukirman.
At the age of 48, Sukirman hopes that PT Timah will continue to progress so that its impact can be felt to help development in West Bangka.
Likewise, PMI Bangka Belitung Chairman Abdul Fatah hopes that PT Timah's Month of Service will be an activity that meets the needs of the community.
"This activity was carried out according to community expectations. We hope that this activity will not stop here. It will develop further," he said.
One of the parents participating in the mass circumcision, Chindra, a resident of Gabek I Pangkalpinang, accompanied his 9-year-old child to take part in the mass circumcision during the month of service for PT Timah's 48th anniversary.
“My son has just entered grade 3 at elementary school, he himself asked to be circumcised. "Moreover, PT Timah is safe and free," said the Pangkalpinang resident.
According to him, the implementation of mass circumcision at PT Timah is highly anticipated by parents, because it can help reduce costs.
"I am very grateful to PT Timah, for helping children and mothers because they have limited funds to circumcise children. "If there are free things like this, it can help reduce costs," he said.
Chindra also prays and hopes that at the age of 48, he will be more successful and prosperous.
"Happy 48th anniversary PT Timah, I hope it will be more successful, and prosperous and can continue to implement better programs in the future."
Likewise, Subhan, a resident of Pagarawan Pal 9, Bangka Regency, thanked PT Timah for carrying out free mass circumcisions for local residents.
"Thank you PT Timah for carrying out this free mass circumcision. We are grateful, especially since this activity is good for helping poor people. "Hopefully on its 48th anniversary this year, PT Timah Jaya will continue to help the poor, people in nursing homes, and abandoned children," said the grandfather of one of the participants. (*)
