WEST BANGKA -- Preserving customs, culture, and traditions is one of PT Timah's concerns. Collaborating with the community, PT Timah supports the traditional activities of the Kute Seribu Pilgrimage in Tanjung Village, Mentok District, West Bangka Regency, Thursday (20/6/2024).
The Kute Seribu Pilgrimage tradition, which is held four days after Eid al-Adha, has become a religious tourism for people in the Mentok area and other areas.
Chairman of the Kute Seribu Pilgrimage Committee, Saleh Al Kaff, said that the Kute Seribu Pilgrimage was originally a village tradition, but has now become known in various regions.
"Initially it was only attended by the people of Kampung Tanjung and its surroundings, but it continued to grow after several decades, becoming known to the people of Mentok and West Bangka. Every year after the 4th Eid al-Adha, we hold a Haul event, and from there it started to become known outside the city of Mentok. Apart from pilgrims on the island "Bangka, there were also attendees from a number of areas such as Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Bogor, and others," he said.
According to him, every year PT Timah supports the Kute Seribu Pilgrimage tradition which is carried out. Moreover, every year the number of guests who come to attend this event increases.
"We from the committee, especially the people of Tanjung, are very grateful to PT Timah for supporting this activity every year. PT Timah's assistance is very helpful for the Kute Seribu Pilgrimage activities," he said.
Meanwhile, Head of the Tourism and Information Department, Muhammad Ali, said that the Kute Seribu Pilgrimage had become a West Bangka Tourism Agenda
"This tradition is an annual tradition and this year is the 17th year that it has become a West Bangka tourist agenda. The Kute Seribu Pilgrimage tradition is visited every year by pilgrims from various regions to the sacred burial place in Tanjung Village, Muntok District, West Bangka Regency, he said.
He appreciated PT Timah's support for various tourism activities in West Bangka.
"We are grateful to PT Timah for preserving this tradition every year by supporting this activity, and not only in this activity, in various West Bangka tourism activities, PT Timah is also present to support other tourism activities," said Muhamad Ali. (*)
