Ensuring Safe and Sustainable Business Operations, PT Timah Tbk Encourages Business Partners to Conduct Independent SMKP Audits

PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah Tbk continues to encourage its business partners to implement the Mining Safety Management System (SMKP). This aligns with the company’s commitment to conducting sustainable business operations by adhering to good mining practices.

One of PT Timah’s initiatives to enhance SMKP implementation both within the company and among its business partners is by organizing an SMKP training session. The event was opened by the Director of Mineral and Coal Engineering and Environment at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (KESDM), who also serves as the Chief Mining Inspector, Dr. Ing. Hendra Gunawan, on March 10, 2025.

The SMKP Implementation Training was attended by employees and business partners of PT Timah from various regions, including Bangka, Belitung, and Kundur.

In his opening remarks, Dr. Ir. Hendra Gunawan emphasized that, in accordance with Ministerial Regulation No. 26 of 2018 issued by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), all mining companies—whether holding Mining Business Licenses (IUP), Contracts of Work (KK), or Coal Mining Concession Work Agreements (PKP2B)—are required to implement SMKP in an integrated manner, involving management, workers, and the workplace environment.

"Mining safety is not just a regulatory obligation; it is a fundamental necessity in creating mining operations that are safe, healthy, efficient, and productive. Therefore, mining companies must conduct internal SMKP audits at least once a year and report the results to the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources," he stated.

He also commended PT Timah Tbk for consistently conducting this training to improve human resource competencies in mining safety.

He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the training so that the knowledge gained can be effectively applied in their daily work.

"We also encourage participants who will become internal auditors to advance to the next level by attending the SMKP Audit Training. This way, they will not only understand the system but also obtain officially recognized certification," he added.

Meanwhile, PT Timah Tbk’s Director of Operations & Production, Nur Adi Kuncoro, stated that this training program is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to implement Good Mining Practices and encourage business partners to conduct independent SMKP audits.

"In 2024, this program was successfully implemented and attended by PT Timah’s business partners in Bangka, Belitung, and Kundur. In 2025, we are organizing this training again with the hope that all business partners will better understand and implement SMKP, enabling them to conduct audits independently in the future," he said.

Furthermore, he reaffirmed PT Timah’s commitment to improving workplace safety, both within the company and among its business partners. Through continuous SMKP implementation, the goal is to prevent workplace accidents and achieve Zero Fatality.

"This training serves as an essential platform to enhance the understanding of PT Timah employees and business partners regarding SMKP. We hope all participants remain focused throughout the training so that SMKP implementation across all business partners can be optimized," he added.

By organizing the 2025 SMKP Implementation Training, PT Timah Tbk further solidifies its role as a leader in workplace safety and responsible mining practices, contributing to a safer, more productive, and sustainable mining industry. (*)
