Enhancing Teacher Competence in East Belitung, PT Timah Tbk Hosts Gernas Tastaka Training Program

EAST BELITUNG – Dozens of teachers in East Belitung Regency participated in a special training session under the National Movement to Eradicate Mathematical Illiteracy (Gernas Tastaka) program, initiated by PT Timah Tbk.

PT Timah collaborated with the Yayasan Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas and the East Belitung Education Office to organize the event, held on November 28–30, 2024, at two locations: SDN 3 Manggar and SDN 1 Gantung.

This initiative by the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding member aims to improve the quality of education in the company’s operational areas.

A total of 80 first- to third-grade mathematics teachers from 80 elementary schools in East Belitung participated in the program, with 40 teachers attending at each location. The training seeks to enhance teachers' ability to teach mathematics creatively and effectively.

The training follows an earlier online session introducing the Gernas Tastaka program on November 22, 2024.

The event was officially opened on November 28, 2024, at SDN 3 Manggar by the Acting Head of the East Belitung Education Office, Dedi Wahyudi; PT Timah’s Division Area Belitung representative and Department Head of Marine Production Monitoring, Tantra Pratama; and the Chairman of the Yayasan Penggerak Indonesia Cerdas, Ahmad Rizali.

Ahmad Rizali emphasized the importance of collaboration in improving education quality.

“We hope that the teachers participating in this training can adopt new, engaging methods to teach mathematics, helping students not only grasp concepts but also develop a greater love for the subject,” he said.

Acting Head of the East Belitung Education Office, Dedi Wahyudi, expressed his appreciation to PT Timah Tbk for its tangible contributions to the education sector in the region.

“Mathematics is the foundation of many fields of knowledge. This effort aims to create an outstanding and competitive generation of learners,” he noted.

PT Timah Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the Gernas Tastaka program reflects the company’s commitment to supporting education in its operational areas.

“We believe quality education is the cornerstone of building future generations. Through this training, we aim to ensure teachers are equipped to inspire students to develop a passion for mathematics,” Anggi said.

In addition to Gernas Tastaka, PT Timah Tbk implements various other educational initiatives, such as the Pemali Boarding School, which has produced 832 accomplished alumni since its establishment in 2000.

Through these initiatives, PT Timah Tbk hopes to continue contributing to developing high-quality youth and fostering sustainable educational progress in Indonesia, supporting the nation’s vision for Indonesia Emas 2045. (*)
