Enhancing Skills of Female Inmates in Pangkalpinang Women’s Prison, PT Timah, and Persikindo Babel Hold Sewing Training

PANGKALPINANG – To improve the skills of inmates at the Class III Women's Correctional Facility in Pangkalpinang, PT Timah, in collaboration with the Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian Creative Srikandi Association (PERSIKINDO) of Bangka Belitung, held a sewing training session on Monday (October 14, 2024).

The entrepreneurship-themed program was attended by the Chairperson of the BKOW of Bangka Belitung Province, Dya Sugito, Head of the Women's Prison, Meita Eriza, the Bangka Belitung Province Cooperatives and MSMEs Office, Muslim, Chairperson of DPD Persikindo Babel, Isnawaty Hadi, CSR Division Head represented by AVP CSR PT Timah, Sindhu Dhamono, Chairperson of Dharma Wanita, and female community leaders in Bangka Belitung.

Dya Sugito appreciated the CSR support from PT Timah, which enabled the sewing training to take place. The participants, who attended the month-long sewing training, were selected inmates with an interest in sewing.

She also motivated the inmates to remain optimistic despite facing difficult circumstances.

"Many thanks to PT Timah. Alhamdulillah, the programs proposed by Persikindo have been realized. We have Persikindo Babel, and CSR PT Timah is supporting the inmates, particularly in fashion, as the fashion industry is growing rapidly," she said.

Dya also shared success stories of former inmates who have reintegrated into society, some becoming coffee shop entrepreneurs or cassava chip producers.

"We are a super team, and with this sewing training led by experienced trainers, I hope it will inspire and provide creative ideas for the inmates so that the products they produce will stand out and have aesthetic value in this fast-growing fashion industry, allowing them to become professional designers," Dya hoped.

Similarly, Chairperson of DPD Persikindo Babel, Isnawati Hadi, explained that this is the second time they have partnered with PT Timah's CSR for this training program.

"PT Timah is truly the best, and the CSR support in this activity hopefully will benefit the inmates and become a source of income for them after returning to society," she said.

Through this sewing training, Isnawaty hopes to nurture productive, creative, and innovative entrepreneurs who can improve their families' economic welfare.

"This training aims to enhance the inmates' skills, enabling them to become proficient and take strategic steps to open business opportunities. We hope it will cultivate productive, innovative, and creative entrepreneurs who can design clothing well, and the products can be sold to improve their families' economic well-being," she stated.

Appreciation was also expressed by the Head of the Women's Prison, Meita Eriza, to PT Timah for consistently supporting female inmates in developing their competencies.

"We are especially grateful to PT Timah for their support, which energizes us in collaborating to develop the women inmates at Pangkalpinang Women's Prison. I hope this sewing training will continue and succeed, enabling the inmates to become professionals, which in turn will help improve their families' economies," she said. (*)
