This time, PT Timah Tbk conducted a mining socialization session with the residents of Tanah Merah Hamlet, Baskara Bakti Village, Namang District, Central Bangka Regency, on Thursday (02/06/2025).
During the session, PT Timah Tbk presented its mining plans for IUP DU 1556, while also involving the local community in managing the natural resources within their hamlet.
“Alhamdulillah, the enthusiasm of the residents for this event was very high. The number of attendees exceeded our expectations. We invited around 500 people who came to hear directly about the mining plans in our village,” said Baskara Bakti Village Head, Bahtiar Eryandi.
Bahtiar expressed hope that mining activities in their village would boost the local economy by directly involving the community. Additionally, he emphasized the need for transparency in the mining process.
“From this socialization, we can conclude that the community supports this mining activity, provided that it is conducted transparently. Although there are differing opinions, we hope the situation remains conducive,” he added.
Meanwhile, Namang District Head, Machyudi Saputra, appreciated PT Timah Tbk’s proactive approach, stating that such socialization efforts help maintain community harmony.
“Alhamdulillah, this kind of event is crucial, and PT Timah has done a fantastic job. Disagreements during socialization are normal, but it’s far better than proceeding without any discussion,” he remarked.
Similarly, Wahyu Nurrakhman, Assistant II of Central Bangka Regent, praised PT Timah Tbk’s commitment to transparency in its socialization efforts.
“Through this session, all stakeholders, including PT Timah, its partners, and the community, gain a clearer understanding of the best way forward. This initiative should maximize state revenue while also improving community welfare,” Wahyu stated.
Additionally, Lieutenant Colonel Arh Agung Rakhman Wahyudi, Commander of Military District Command (Dandim) 0413/Bangka, expressed his hope that Tanah Merah Hamlet could serve as a model for good mining governance.
“Forkopimda fully supports this initiative. Moreover, the community has voiced their aspirations, and PT Timah's leadership must take them into account,” he emphasized.
He further stressed that, as an extension of the state in managing natural resources, PT Timah must contribute to the community’s well-being by ensuring proper governance in its business processes.
“Mining operations must be conducted transparently to prevent state losses. Not just the military, but all government entities should support PT Timah, as it plays a crucial role in increasing national foreign exchange earnings,” Agung concluded. (*)
