Enhancing K3 Culture Implementation, PT Timah Facilitates Employee Certification for Heavy Equipment Operators

BANGKA BARAT – PT Timah continues to demonstrate its commitment to implementing a culture of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) in the company’s business processes to create a safe and productive working environment.

K3 is one of PT Timah’s top priorities. Workplace safety is not just an individual responsibility but also a part of the company’s culture that must be continuously instilled. The K3 culture promoted by the company aims not only to prevent accidents but also to enhance employees' understanding through K3 training for both employees and business partners.

This time, PT Timah held another In-House Training and Certification Program for K3 Heavy Equipment Operators for employees in the Processing and Refinery Division, which took place from October 15-17, 2024, at Wisma Sriwijaya Mentok.

Al Musa, a Labor Inspector from the Bangka Belitung Provincial Manpower Office, who served as the speaker in the training, explained that the goal of this training was to obtain K3 certification for heavy equipment operators, issued by the Ministry of Manpower.

"Workers operating heavy equipment must have a K3 license as operators. To obtain this license, training or courses like this are necessary," he said.

He further explained that this certification is a requirement mandated by the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 8 of 2010. Participants of the In-House Training will receive guidance related to K3, the eligibility to operate heavy equipment in compliance with K3 standards, and an understanding of proper equipment use in line with K3 regulations.

According to Al Musa, PT Timah has remained consistent in addressing K3 issues. One example of its commitment is the large number of workers who have participated in K3 training.

"PT Timah is committed to K3 matters. Many training programs have been conducted, and since 2016, many workers have participated in such programs to obtain K3 certification, including for crane operators, forklift operators, and heavy equipment operators, as well as previously for genset operators facilitated by PT Timah," he mentioned.

Looking forward, he hopes that after obtaining certification, PT Timah employees can operate equipment safely, comply with K3 regulations, and achieve zero workplace accidents, which in turn would benefit the company through increased employee productivity.

Meanwhile, PT Timah's Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, emphasized that certification not only ensures that operators have the necessary technical skills but also understands the importance of maintaining safety for themselves and their colleagues while on duty. This aligns with the company’s mission to create a safe and productive work environment.

"We recognize that jobs involving heavy equipment carry high risks. Therefore, this training is essential to ensure that all operators understand the correct and safe operational techniques, while also adhering to strict K3 procedures," he stated. (*)
