Enhancing Human Resources Quality in Mining Areas, PT Timah's Pemali Boarding School Program Benefits Hundreds of Students

PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah’s education scholarship program is part of the company’s long-term commitment to developing superior and highly competitive human resources.

PT Timah’s initiative to provide educational scholarships for children in mining areas has been ongoing since 2000. Through the Pemali Boarding School program, 851 alumni have benefited from the free education provided by PT Timah.

With the Pemali Boarding School Program, PT Timah hopes to continue contributing to creating intelligent, character-driven, and globally competitive individuals, as well as becoming a strategic partner for the government in achieving sustainable development.

Pemali Boarding School (PBS) is a high school-level education scholarship where students attend SMAN 1 Pemali but live in dormitories provided by PT Timah.

This program targets high-achieving students from low-income families in operational areas, aiming to reduce the dropout rate.

Scholarship recipients come from the Bangka Belitung Islands Province, Karimun Regency (Riau Islands Province), and Meranti Regency (Riau Province). Alumni of the scholarship program now work in various professions, including teachers, doctors, lecturers, police officers, and employees of state-owned enterprises and private sectors.

Each year, PT Timah's Pemali Boarding School program is eagerly awaited by students, with hundreds applying for the program.

In addition to academic skill development, this scholarship program is designed to enhance soft skills such as communication, teamwork, and leadership, preparing alumni to be adaptable and effective in various situations.

Through various training and mentorship programs, PT Timah aims to ensure that scholarship recipients become resilient and ethical future leaders.

“The Pemali Boarding School Program is not just financial assistance, but also includes educational mentoring for scholarship recipients. Soft skill training is also provided, with PT Timah collaborating with educational institutions to ensure recipients receive proper guidance and support, both academically and in character development,” said PT Timah’s Head of Corporate Communications, Anggi Siahaan.

“The program is expected to produce individuals who are not only intellectually intelligent but also possess good work ethics and morals,” he added.

One of the Pemali Boarding School scholarship recipients, Lila Nur Syafira (15) from West Bangka, expressed her gratitude for receiving the scholarship from this member of the MIND ID Mining Industry Holding.

“The school is great, an extraordinary place to seek knowledge, with many extracurricular activities for self-development, building relationships with experts, learning to be independent away from home, and competing with students from various regions, united in a sense of family at the dormitory,” said this graduate of SMP 2 Jebus.
