SAWANG LAUT -- PT Timah Tbk encourages the economic independence of the community around the mining area by empowering communities based on village potential. One form of empowerment carried out is by cultivating sucking snails with the Batu Tuan Fishermen Group, Sawang Laut Village, West Kundur District, Karimun Regency.
Snail cultivation is considered economical because it has a sale value and is quite attractive to the public. In addition, the location of Batu Tuan Beach is also suitable for developing sucking snail cultivation.
This cultivation program can provide other economic resources for the Batu Tuan Fishermen Group. So it is expected to improve the economy of fishing communities.
PT Timah Tbk together with the Batu Tuan Fishermen's Group released 12 kilos of suckling snail seeds at Batu Tuan Beach on Monday (26/6/2023). Later the suction slugs that are released will be raised by this group.
The head of the Snail Enlargement Cultivation Group, Amran, said that his group is very happy to be involved in this suckling snail enlargement program.
"This program is very good and also quite promising economically to get additional income apart from catching fish," said Amran.
His party also appreciates PT Timah Tbk for caring for and involving them in the suction snail enlargement program.
"Thank you PT Timah for caring about us and helping us with this program, I hope this snail enlargement program can go well," he said.
Meanwhile, the Head of Sawang Laut Village, Jefrizal, said that he really supports the suction snail cultivation program, especially since this program directly comes into contact with fishermen.
"Hopefully the suction snail enlargement program can help improve the fishermen's economy," he said.
In the same vein, the Head of West Kundur sub-district, Khaidir, who took part in the release of snail seeds, appreciated this program. He hoped that this could continue to grow.
