PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah Tbk continues to strengthen its support for female employees through innovative policies, facilities, and programs, including the Women in TINS community.
This community serves as both a platform for empowerment and a space for personal development for PT Timah’s female employees, who actively contribute to the mining sector. Despite the industry’s traditionally masculine image, PT Timah's women employees demonstrate resilience and professionalism in their roles.
PT Timah is committed to creating a workplace that values the role of women, offering equal opportunities across various aspects. Policies such as maternity leave, lactation rooms, and competency development training are designed to help female employees balance their professional and personal roles effectively.
During a recent Women in TINS event at Graha Timah, Sistya Windasari, CEO & Founder of Fitsquad Indonesia, highlighted the importance of balancing women's roles in the mining industry.
“When women are entrusted with significant responsibilities, their masculine side often emerges. However, through communities like Women in TINS, they can maintain a balance between their masculine and feminine traits, leading to a more harmonious life,” Sistya explained.
She emphasized that such communities enhance intellectual capacity, productivity, and positively impact the company.
“This community not only provides a space for sharing but also boosts intellectual capabilities, fosters empowerment, and motivates women to keep excelling. The positive effects benefit both individuals and the company. Empowered women bring tremendous impact in driving workplace productivity and innovation,” she added.
Women hold roles equally as important as men in the mining sector but face unique challenges, such as balancing dual responsibilities at home and work, as well as physical and emotional differences.
Sistya advised women to maintain balance through consistency and discipline. “With a healthy and regular lifestyle, women can fulfill all their roles effectively. Don’t forget to stay active through exercise to remain fit and productive,” she encouraged.
Indah Arrifiyanti, Assistant Manager of Administration in the Belitung Area Division, exemplifies how PT Timah provides equal opportunities for women. As a mother of four, she appreciates the company’s support in managing her dual roles.
“One of the most helpful facilities is the lactation room, showing how much PT Timah cares for its female employees,” Indah shared.
She recounted her career journey, transitioning from office work to field assignments, which brought new challenges and excitement.
“Working in the field introduces a new dynamic. From office routines, I now face the diverse challenges of mining. This change makes me feel empowered and valued equally to my male colleagues,” she added.
Indah noted the importance of family and workplace support in helping women tackle challenges in the mining industry.
“Thankfully, I receive full support from my husband and children. The work environment at PT Timah is also very supportive, from colleagues to management,” she said.
Christina Ida Romauli, Department Head of Environmental, Rehabilitation, and Post-Mining, shared her perspective on the significant role of women in mining.
“As women, we can bring fresh innovations and solutions to the company. Gender is not a limitation but an opportunity to showcase expertise,” she said.
Christina shared a memorable moment in her career: “I witnessed barren post-mining land transform into lush greenery. This is tangible proof that women can make a significant contribution, not just to the company but also to society and the environment.”
PT Timah has demonstrated its commitment to gender equality through various policies and facilities. Christina highlighted the company’s support for female workers, including menstrual leave, maternity leave, and childbirth facilities.
“These policies reflect the company’s understanding of women’s specific needs and its effort to create an inclusive work environment,” she explained.
Additionally, programs like Women in TINS exemplify the company’s dedication to supporting women’s development. These initiatives focus on skills training while providing a platform for innovation and maximizing women’s contributions.
Christina expressed hope that future generations of women would gain more confidence in taking on roles in the mining industry.
“We must continue to enhance our skills and prove that women can contribute equally, if not more, than men. Let’s not allow limitations to hinder us from realizing our potential,” she encouraged.
Through its policies, facilities, and programs like Women in TINS, PT Timah has cultivated an inclusive culture that values women’s contributions. This approach strengthens women’s roles in the mining industry while positively impacting the company as a whole.
With a firm commitment to gender equality, PT Timah proves that women’s presence in mining is not just a potential but a powerful force. This success not only enhances corporate performance but also sets an example for creating an inclusive and progressive workplace. (*)
