BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk througjh Division Engineering Operation Excellence and Mine Supportcontinues to demonstrate its commitment to preserving the environment. This time, the company involved students from Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Negeri (MIN) 1 Bangka in learning firsthand about the importance of protecting ecosystems through mangrove planting at Kolong Buntu, Balai Karya Air Kantung, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, on Friday (August 15, 2025).
A total of 300 mangrove seedlings were planted together with the students, teachers, the Head of Nangnung Neighborhood in Sungailiat, and PT Timah Tbk employees.
This activity was not only about planting mangroves but also served as an educational opportunity to introduce children at an early age to mangrove ecosystems. The participants learned about the benefits of mangroves in protecting coastlines, serving as habitats for marine life, and contributing to reclamation efforts to restore areas damaged by human activity.
PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, explained that mangrove planting is aimed at preserving the environment while educating students about the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems.
“Education from an early age is crucial so that the younger generation develops a sense of environmental awareness. Mangroves play a vital role in biodiversity and in maintaining coastal ecosystems,” said Anggi.
It is known that parts of the mangrove area around Kolong Buntu have been damaged due to illegal mining activities. Therefore, restoration efforts through mangrove planting are essential to ensure the ecosystem is protected.
By involving students, it is expected that awareness and love for the environment will grow from an early age.
