Education about preventing stunting, PT Timah promotes stunting program in Lumut village

BANGKA -- To support the government's program to reduce the prevalence of stunting and improve the quality of public health, PT Timah Tbk continues to promote the Stunting Reducing Activities (Kemunting) program.

The Kemunting program is a PT Timah initiative to educate, prevent, and handle stunting in the company's operational areas. Especially regarding the importance of balanced nutrition in preventing stunting in children.

In implementing the Kemunting program PT Timah collaborated with the Association of Breastfeeding Mothers (AIMI) Bangka Belitung.

This time, the Kemunting program was implemented in the Lumut Village Office Yard, Belinyu District, Bangka Regency, on Thursday (5/9/2024).

The PT Timah Village Lumut Kemunting Program was also attended by the Head of Lumut Village, Frenky Rickyantong Liong, KPM Cadre of Lumut Village,
Nuraini, and Chair of the Babel Breastfeeding Mothers Association, Mila.

According to Frenky, there are many benefits obtained from the PT Timah Kemunting Program for the people of Lumut Village, especially for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and mothers with toddlers.

"I appreciate the existence of this program because just a little information shows that in this village there is one stunted child and eight children whose nutrition is below normal.

It is hoped that this outreach can help mothers prevent stunting so that the number does not increase.

Meanwhile, Lumut Village KPM cadre, Nuraini, added that most of the causes of stunting are due to lack of nutrition given to children.

"On average, the cause of stunting is due to lack of nutrition and some also suffer from TB," he said.

The Kemunting Program socialization conveys the characteristics of stunting, the causes of stunting, and how to prevent stunting.

Not only education, but PT Timah also provides additional food for children in Lumut Village.

Riani Fitriana (24), one of the Lumut Village residents who received these benefits, said that this program was following the needs of the Lumut Village community.

"This program is very good and helps the community gain a broader understanding about stunting because there are many mothers who still don't understand about stunting so it meets their needs," he said.

For him, the material presented was easy to understand so he learned many new things through this socialization.

"The material presented by the presenters was easy to digest so I gained a lot of knowledge, such as how to properly manage MPASI, the characteristics of stunting, and how to deal with stunting," he said.

He hopes that in the future PT Timah can hold the Kemunting Program regularly and the company will become even more successful.

"The hope is that this program will continue to run and can be carried out regularly. Thank you very much to PT Timah for holding an extraordinary event. Hopefully, PT Timah will always provide the best for the community," he concluded. (*)
