BELITUNG TIMUR – PT Timah Tbk remains committed to supporting the education sector, in line with President Prabowo's Asta Cita, one of which is to strengthen human resources through education.
PT Timah’s commitment to supporting education is implemented through several programs, including scholarships, assistance for school facilities, teacher competency development, and improving education quality.
This time, the Mining Industry Holding Member MIND ID again delivered learning facilities in the form of desks and chairs to SDN 21 Gantung in Belitung Timur Regency on Thursday (5/12/2024).
As previously known, first-grade students at SDN 21, Gantung did not have desks and chairs, so the teaching and learning process was carried out while sitting on the floor, using only carpets as a base.
Class 1B teacher, Veny, explained that for the 2024/2025 academic year, SDN 21 Gantung had to accept two new classes. This was done due to a higher number of new enrollments compared to previous years.
The decision to add new classes was approved by the parents' committee (School Committee) and the East Belitung Education Office, although the teaching and learning activities were carried out without desks and chairs.
"Alhamdulillah, the children remain enthusiastic about learning even though they had to sit on the floor," she said.
This learning condition was then conveyed to PT Timah during a previous event, the Nutritious Meal Support Program, held at the same location.
"Now, the children can carry out the learning process properly. Hopefully, this will motivate us to provide the best for our students," Veny added.
One of the students, Alesha Azzahra (Echa), who received a desk and chair, expressed her joy at having a desk and chair to study.
"I will take care of my desk and chair, and I will study even harder," Echa said enthusiastically.
Meanwhile, Anggi Siahaan, Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT Timah, stated that the company frequently provides educational facilities and infrastructure assistance in its operational areas.
This is part of the company's effort to improve human resources through the education sector. PT Timah also collaborates with various parties to support the realization of Indonesia's Golden Generation 2045.
“Education is one way to improve the quality of human resources. PT Timah Tbk is very concerned about education through various programs run by the company, including providing educational facilities as done today,” said Anggi.
Furthermore, Anggi mentioned that PT Timah also supports government programs to provide nutritious food for students, which have been trialed in several schools.
“The educational programs implemented by PT Timah are also aligned with government programs, so we can achieve the shared goal of improving human resources by increasing access to education for the community,” she concluded. (*)
