BANGKA BARAT – To provide education on handling stunting and child development, the Timah Employees' Wives Association (IIKT) of Mentok organized a Parenting Seminar.

The seminar, with the theme "The Importance of Early Detection in Child Development," was held at the Sriwijaya Building in Mentok on Saturday, September 7, 2024, in the afternoon.

The event featured speakers Psychologist Desta Israwanda M.Psl and Dr. Isna Panca Bayu K.Sp .A, moderated by Dr. Jovita Metkono. Attendees included IIKT members, kindergarten, elementary and junior high school teachers, as well as retired employees' spouses.

Mondank July Esin Shisei, Chairperson of IIKT Mentok, said that the seminar aimed to provide parents with the knowledge to prevent issues arising from delayed child development.

“This seminar aims to provide insights to parents on the importance of preventing stunting, malnutrition, obesity, and illnesses in children as early as possible during their growth and development,” she said.

According to her, the speakers are from Alinea, which provides integrated child development psychological services.

Pediatrician Dr. Isna Panca Bayu K.Sp.A mentioned that the seminar is intended to make parents aware of the importance of early detection in addressing issues arising from child development.

“We hope that through this seminar, mothers will become more aware of the importance of early detection of child growth and development issues, so that stunting, malnutrition, obesity, and delayed speech can be prevented as early as possible,” she explained.

Psychologist Desta Israwanda emphasized the crucial role of both parents in positive parenting during a child’s development, providing a safe and comfortable environment, fulfilling their emotional needs, and maximizing their growth.

“Children need attention and support from both parents in a complete and complex manner, not just the mother but also the father. They need to complement each other and fulfill their respective roles,” she said. (*)
