WEST BANGKA -- To help fishermen access to bring in their catch, PT Timah Tbk supports the normalization of dredging the Binting River estuary in Hamlet 2, Belo Laut Village, West Bangka Regency.
The estuary of the Binting River is one of the access points for fishermen to go to sea and return to land. Currently, the condition is experiencing shallowing, which often disrupts fishing boat traffic.
The financial assistance for dredging river channels was handed over by the Head of PT Timah Tbk's KIP and Transport Monitoring Division, Ronanta, to the Head of the Binting River Estuary Normalization Team, Bahtiar, and the Head of Belo Laut Fishermen, Alfian, accompanied by the Head of Belo Laut Village, Ibnu, Thursday (16/11/2023)
Head of the Binting River Estuary Normalization Team, Bahtiar, said that the condition of the Binting River estuary is currently experiencing shallowing and chaos.
"Currently, the condition of the Binting River estuary is silting up and looks chaotic. This is disrupting the transportation of fishing boats that will deliver marine products," he said.
According to him, with assistance from PT Timah Tbk, the river mouth will be dredged, cleaned, and enlarged, to make it easier for fishing boats to dock.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Belo Laut Belo Laut Fishermen, Alfian, appreciated PT Timah's assistance, according to him, this assistance made access to fishing boats easier.
"This program is very good, it makes access to fishing boats easier, representing fishermen and the community are very grateful to PT Timah for their assistance," said Alfian.
Likewise, the Head of Belo Laut Village, Ibnu, said that PT Timah's assistance was a form of the company's concern and social responsibility to help fishermen.
"This assistance is a form of PT Timah's concern for fishermen. Apart from operating, PT Timah also carries out social responsibilities around its operational area. The Belo Laut Village Government appreciates this assistance," said Ibnu. (*)
