BANGKA -- As part of its commitment to environmental sustainability and to foster a culture of waste awareness from an early age, PT Timah has donated five sets of waste sorting bins to SDN 1 Pemali in Bangka Regency.
The donation was handed over to SDN 1 Pemali teacher representative Resty Delliani by PT Timah’s Division Head of Engineering & Operation Excellence, Muhammad Ihsan, during the HARI CERDAS event (an acronym for Helipad, Green, Neat, and Beautiful – A Reflection of Environmentally Friendly Education) held at the Helipad Balai Karya Sungailiat, Bangka, on Thursday, July 3, 2025.
The aim of the initiative is to educate students on the importance of proper waste management, particularly in sorting organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste.
Through this program, the younger generation is expected to develop strong environmental awareness and become change agents for creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
Resty Delliani, a teacher at SDN 1 Pemali, stated that their school is a nationally recognized Adiwiyata (eco-friendly) school. The provision of waste sorting bins, she said, supports their efforts to educate students on proper waste management.
“With these sorting bins, we can facilitate our students in separating organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste. By learning to distinguish these types of waste from an early age, we hope this will become a habit they carry into daily life,” she said.
She added that sorted organic waste will be used to produce compost in collaboration with the Bangka District Environmental Office, while inorganic waste will be delivered to the Air Ruay Waste Bank to be recycled into various products.
“We truly appreciate PT Timah’s support in providing our school with waste sorting bins. This is a collective effort to educate children to start sorting and managing waste from an early age,” she added.
Meanwhile, PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, emphasized the company’s support for environmental education initiatives, especially those conducted by schools.
“PT Timah is committed to environmental management, but we also work with various stakeholders, including schools, because environmental education must start early. By providing waste sorting bins to schools, the company aims to instill the habit of waste separation as early as elementary school,” said Anggi.
Through this initiative, the company hopes to contribute to achieving sustainable development goals, particularly in the areas of waste management and environmental protection. This program is also part of PT Timah’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts in education and the environment.
