PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH (Persero) Tbk welcomed participants of the Duta Minerba Goes To Site 2026 program organized by the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal (Ditjen Minerba) under the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). The program provides university students with an opportunity to observe mining business processes firsthand while gaining a deeper understanding of good and sustainable mining practices.
Duta Minerba Goes To Site 2026 will take place across PT TIMAH’s operational areas from September 29 to October 3, 2026. The participants were welcomed by PT TIMAH Division Head of HSSE Nono Budi Priono and Department Head of Corporate Communication at PT TIMAH’s Main Meeting Room on Tuesday (September 29, 2026).
Nine Duta Minerba participants from various universities will gain firsthand experience with different aspects of the company’s operations, ranging from mining, processing, and smelting to environmental management, Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) programs, and the empowerment of partner MSMEs.
The participants will also visit the Indonesia Tin Museum and Kampoeng Reklamasi Air Jangkang to learn more about the history of tin mining as well as efforts to restore and utilize post-mining land.
Anggita Miftah Hairani, Coordinator of Public Relations and Public Information Services at the Directorate General of Mineral and Coal, said Duta Minerba Goes To Site is designed to provide younger generations with a better understanding of the mining industry through firsthand field experience.
“This is the second year of Duta Minerba. Enthusiasm has grown significantly this year. From 645 applicants, we selected 90 participants for the mineral and coal commodities,” Anggita said.
She explained that participants are divided into two batches. For the mineral commodities, 45 university students were selected, nine of whom were given the opportunity to visit PT TIMAH. The other batch will participate in visits related to coal commodities.
According to Anggita, Duta Minerba participants are expected to serve as a bridge of information between the government, businesses, and the public, particularly by providing a better understanding of mining activities based on actual conditions and practices in the field.
“Amid the various information and issues surrounding mining, we need people who can communicate information and serve as a bridge. We hope Duta Minerba can become an information bridge between the government, businesses, and the public,” she said.
Through their visit to PT TIMAH, participants will learn firsthand about the implementation of Good Mining Practice (GMP), including how the company carries out its operations, manages environmental aspects, and implements PPM programs as part of its sustainability efforts.
Anggita also expressed her appreciation to PT TIMAH for once again serving as a host for Duta Minerba Goes To Site.
“We appreciate PT TIMAH for once again being willing to serve as a host. We hope the experience gained during this visit will be valuable and equip the participants to become a bridge of information to the public,” she said.
One participant, Arya Saputra from Hasanuddin University (Unhas), said he was enthusiastic about joining Duta Minerba Goes To Site because it gave him an opportunity to learn directly from mining activities.
According to him, observing PT TIMAH’s operations firsthand offers a different experience from classroom learning on campus.
“I am interested because Duta Minerba provides an opportunity to learn directly in the field. Not every university student has access to an experience like this, so I want to make the most of this opportunity and learn as much as possible,” he said.
Arya said he was eager to learn more about the characteristics of tin mining, both onshore and offshore, including ore processing, downstream processing, marine reclamation, and post-reclamation monitoring.
“I want to learn how ore processing is carried out and what forms of downstream processing are implemented, as well as how marine reclamation is conducted, including the reclamation and monitoring activities. I also want to gain a deeper understanding of how Good Mining Practice is implemented at PT TIMAH,” he said.
Similar enthusiasm was expressed by Salsabila Azaliyah Putri, a Chemical Engineering student at Bandung State Polytechnic. She said she was particularly interested in seeing offshore mining activities firsthand, as they are one of the distinctive characteristics of PT TIMAH’s operations.
“I am very excited to see the offshore activities. I want to observe the mining process firsthand because I think it is different from what I have studied so far,” she said.
In addition to the mining process, Salsabila is also interested in learning about the company’s social and environmental programs.
“I also want to learn about the CSR programs, including programs for schoolchildren, as well as how Good Mining Practice is implemented at PT TIMAH,” she said.
Through Duta Minerba Goes To Site 2026, participants will not only gain knowledge about mining processes but also see how mining activities are integrated with safety, environmental management, community empowerment, and local economic development. (*)
