WEST BANGKA -- PT Timah Tbk continues to carry out various initiatives to improve the quality of education in its operational areas. In addition to supporting educational facilities and infrastructure, the company also focuses on enhancing the competence of educators.
Through its “Timah Mengajar” (Timah Teaching) program, PT Timah held a workshop titled “Improving Teacher Competence Through Popular Scientific Writing as a Form of Professional Development for 2025” in West Bangka Regency.
In collaboration with the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of West Bangka Regency and the Sekawan Literacy Community, 45 elementary, middle, and vocational school teachers participated in the scientific writing workshop, held at Wisma Timah Sriwijaya in Mentok from June 11–13, 2025.
This workshop is expected to help teachers produce a collection of popular scientific writings (opinions) and a compilation of traditional rhymed verses (pantun), which will be compiled into a book. Each participant will receive a copy, with all costs fully covered by MIND ID, a member of the Indonesian Mining Industry Holding.
PT Timah brought in various speakers to provide materials on scientific writing, including representatives from the Sekawan Literacy Community, the Provincial Education Department of the Bangka Belitung Islands, and the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of West Bangka.
Acting Head of the West Bangka Education, Youth and Sports Department, Henky Wibawa, expressed his appreciation for PT Timah’s “Timah Mengajar” program held in the region.
“Thank you to PT Timah, through its CSR program, for contributing to education in West Bangka through this workshop. Hopefully, it brings benefits to all of us and can continue to be implemented in support of teacher performance. It would be great if this could be applied across all levels of education,” he said.
One of the participants, Destriani Elvira, a teacher at SDN 22 Mentok, expressed her gratitude and pride for being part of the program.
“Thank you so much to PT Timah Tbk for organizing this activity. I hope the Timah Mengajar program continues and that more teachers can benefit from this wonderful initiative,” she said.
PT Timah Tbk’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, said the Timah Mengajar program is part of the company’s efforts to improve teacher quality, which is expected to be implemented in schools and boost literacy.
The Timah Mengajar program is also aligned with the fourth point of President Prabowo’s development agenda, which focuses on improving the quality of human resources in the education sector.
“The scientific writing workshop for teachers is being held across all of the company’s operational areas. It’s one of several initiatives PT Timah is taking to support the education sector and improve human resource quality. PT Timah also runs scholarship programs, provides educational facilities and infrastructure support, and facilitates teacher competency development,” he said.
