Creating an Inclusive Work Environment, PT Timah Holds 'Empowered Women Growing Together' Workshop

PANGKALPINANG – PT Timah is committed to fostering a professional industry with an inclusive environment that prioritizes gender equality in its business processes.

To support women's empowerment in the workplace, PT Timah has launched various strategic initiatives to help female employees thrive. One of these initiatives includes forming a women’s employee community and organizing workshops to enhance the skills and capacities of female workers.

PT Timah hosted the Women IN TINS Workshop themed "Empowered Women Growing Together" for its female employees, held both online and in-person at Graha Timah, Pangkalpinang, from Monday to Tuesday (21-22/10/2024).

The workshop, specifically designed for PT Timah’s female employees, was attended by the Director of Finance and Risk Management, Fina Eliani, along with guest speakers such as Derita Prapti Rahayu, a law lecturer from the University of Bangka Belitung, Senior PR Expert and Founder of Promi, Ika Sastrosoebroto, and M. Syaiful Muktafa from Bicara Pede Academy.

Fina Eliani stated that PT Timah currently has 263 female employees. Empowering women in the workplace involves providing them with the knowledge, skills, and authority to make decisions and actively participate in the workforce.

One of PT Timah's efforts to empower women is forming Women IN TINS in March 2024.

“The formation of Women IN TINS is one way to promote the implementation of development programs specifically for women as part of a collective effort to advance gender equality initiatives,” she said.

Derita Prapti Rahayu, the first speaker, discussed the theme "Women and Human Rights." She highlighted the contemporary and future challenges for women, including achieving gender equality and fulfilling women’s rights and addressing the deeply rooted patriarchal views in social, political, and economic sectors.

“Today’s challenges for women include cases of domestic violence, sexual harassment, and early marriage, which are ongoing issues. That’s why, collectively, we must work together to overcome these challenges,” she explained.

She also emphasized the importance of corporate leadership’s commitment to gender equality, which is essential in creating an inclusive work environment.

“Company leaders must strongly commit and set an example in promoting gender equality by ensuring comprehensive gender equality policies are well implemented. This way, the vision, goals, and progress related to gender equality can be transparently achieved,” she said.

Senior PR Expert and Founder of Promi, Ika Sastrosoebroto, addressed the topic of "Effective Communication and Diversity." She noted that not everything communicated by others needs to be followed, as communication is the power of thoughts conveyed and understood by those engaged in the conversation.

“Everyone communicates, but not everyone communicates well or effectively,” she said.

Diversity in communication is not just a buzzword; it is a valuable asset in the workplace, embracing uniqueness to foster innovation, creativity, and collaboration.

In the communication process, all parties play an important role, as successful communication can be measured by whether the sender’s message has achieved its goal—whether to inform, influence, persuade, or entertain.

“Remember that in life, we must play a role. In doing so, we must not pretend. Everyone can negotiate because everyone has an important part in every life process,” Ika concluded. (*)
