KUNDUR – Tuah Ketam’s Fish Cultivation Group (Kelompok Budidaya Ikan (Pokdakan), Sawang Laut Village succeeded in cultivating crabs. This was marked by dozens of kilograms produced from the crab farming harvest on Monday (6/9/2021), at Tuah Beach, Sawang Laut Village, West Kundur District.

The crab cultivating program is in collaboration with PT Timah Tbk since 2020. But recently, PT Timah Tbk donated around 1000 crab seeds. Through their CSR Team, PT Timah Tbk not only donated crab seeds to cultivate crabs but also provided coaching and training for the cultivation members.
Pokdakan Tuah Ketam’s Chief, Supiyanto, said through PT Timah Tbk’s Public Development and Empowerment (PPM) program his team managed to successfully harvest ready-to-sell quality crabs from the support of PT Timah Tbk.

He explained this crab harvest is done accordingly to crab’s growth, stage by stage. The harvested crabs will be sold to the public, as crabs are well known to have many admirers. He appraised, through this program, PT Timah Tbk has helped the members’ economy, as well increased comprehension of crab conservation. Hopefully the result later on, (crab conservation) could be a new economic opportunity.

“The crab farming harvest is a program run by Pokdadakan Tuah Ketam, supported by PT Timah Tbk. From seeds to training held some time ago. So now, we can reap the result,” he adds.

He agreed, there are some problems faced in this cultivation, such as crab’s feed.
“This harvest surely gives extra earnings to fishermen and cultivation members. Other than net catching or sailings during the Covid-19 pandemic which paralyzed all-economy lines,” he exclaimed.

He hopes in the future, PT Timah Tbk will keep collaborating with their team so that this crab cultivation can goes on. Moreover, not just cultivating, his team is planning to do nursing in the future.
“We say our thank you to PT Timah Tbk for their help and support to our team. Hopefully, existing programs at PT Timah are always open for collaboration or aligned with us fishermen so that the established synergy could be kept safe,” he hoped.
