PANGKALPINANG -- PT TIMAH Tbk supported the visit of Committee II of the Regional Representative Council (DPD RI) as part of its oversight of Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The meeting took place at Graha Timah Pangkalpinang on Monday (November 24, 2025).
The event was attended by the Chairman of Committee II DPD RI, La Ode Umar Bonte, members of Committee II, representatives from the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Forestry, the Expert Staff for Economic, Financial, and Development Affairs of the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government, Eko Kurniawan, as well as the regional leadership forum (Forkopimda) of Bangka Belitung. Also present was PT TIMAH Tbk’s General Manager of Operations and Production, Ryan Andri.
During the session, Committee II Chairman La Ode Umar Bonte stated that the working visit to Bangka Belitung focused on supervising the implementation of the Environmental Law, involving relevant ministries, local governments, the regional parliament, mining business actors, and other stakeholders to hear firsthand the issues related to the environment and mining in the region.
“This oversight is closely related to the tin mining activities in Bangka Belitung,” he said.
He emphasized that while the DPD RI shares legislative functions with the House of Representatives (DPR RI), the DPD RI fundamentally represents regional governments structurally, from village heads to regents and governors.
“We hope that village heads, regents, and governors will build stronger communication with the DPD RI, because the DPD RI is essentially the representative of local governments in conveying aspirations to the central government. We expect this meeting to bring positive impacts to mining governance and environmental management in Bangka Belitung,” he added.
Meanwhile, Eko Kurniawan, Expert Staff for Economic, Financial, and Development Affairs of the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government, said that the province possesses abundant natural resources—mining, marine, and tourism—which also present complex environmental challenges.
For this reason, he said the provincial government seeks support from the DPD RI to help improve natural resource governance so that these resources can provide welfare for the people without compromising environmental sustainability.
“We ask for the DPD RI’s support. Bangka Belitung is rich in natural resources our people should not remain poor. We hope that the central government can better regulate mining to improve community welfare. The provincial government is committed to advancing development while staying aligned with environmental conservation,” he said.
PT TIMAH Tbk’s General Manager of Operations and Production, Ryan Andri, stated that the visit serves as motivation for the company to continue improving its practices in line with its mission to contribute to the nation and surrounding communities.
“We hope this meeting brings benefits, opens space for constructive dialogue, and strengthens synergy between PT TIMAH Tbk and Committee II of the DPD RI in supporting sustainable development and natural resource management,” he said.
He added, “PT TIMAH Tbk is committed to ensuring that all operational activities not only contribute economically to the state but also enhance community welfare in operational areas through job creation, MSME empowerment, social development, and programs to improve education and health. The company consistently implements Good Mining Practices to minimize environmental impacts from its operations.”
