PANGKALPINANG -- Commission XII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) conducted a recess working visit to PT Timah Tbk as part of its oversight and development agenda for the national tin mining sector to ensure it provides benefits for the community. As part of the visit, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held at PT Timah Tbk’s Main Meeting Room on Monday (August 11, 2025).
The working visit, led by the Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, Bambang Patijaya, was also attended by the Deputy for Investment Services of the Ministry of Investment and MIND ID Downstream, Iwan Suryana; President Director of PT Timah, Restu Widiyantoro; Director of Non-Industrial Business Licensing Services of the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, Raharjo Siswohartono; Director of Mineral Mining, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Cecep Mohamad Yasin; Deputy for Pollution and Environmental Damage Control of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, Rasio Ridho Sani; Chairman of the Indonesian Tin Exporters Association, Harwendeo Adityo Dewanto; President Director of JFX, Stephanus Paulus Lumintang; and the Assistant for General Administration of the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government, Yunan Helmi.
During the FGD, members of Commission XII DPR RI also provided constructive input to improve national tin governance, aiming to deliver greater benefits for public welfare, state revenues, and sustainable environmental preservation.
Meanwhile, MIND ID and PT Timah Tbk presented their downstreaming efforts, improvements in governance, corporate social and environmental responsibility programs, as well as community involvement in PT Timah’s business processes.
Chairman of Commission XII DPR RI, Bambang Patijaya, stated that the visit to PT Timah was an effort to improve national tin governance and encourage companies to involve local communities in tin mining to help boost Bangka Belitung’s economic growth.
“Today, Commission XII conducted a recess working visit to PT Timah attended by various stakeholders. The goal is to restore the tin industry and ensure mining activities involve the community. This way, people will no longer have to play cat and mouse over legal issues, as their activities can be accommodated,” Bambang said after the meeting.
Bambang also expressed support for PT Timah’s efforts to involve communities in mining through cooperative partnerships, enabling them to mine in compliance with regulations within PT Timah’s Mining Business License (IUP) areas.
“We heard the President Director of PT Timah commit to community involvement, cooperatives, and several other initiatives engaging the public. We hope tin governance truly involves the community. We appreciate PT Timah’s tagline, ‘Tin for the People,’” he said.
Going forward, he hopes there will be no more illegal tin mining in Bangka Belitung and encourages PT Timah as well as other tin companies in the region to accommodate local miners so they can operate in accordance with the law.
“The concept is this: if people are mining in PT Timah’s IUP, engage them by issuing a Work Order (SPK) and selling their output to PT Timah. If they are in a private IUP area, the same applies. Of course, this must be done with caution because we want mining activities to follow regulations,” he added.
“We want mining to involve communities in accordance with regulations so that people can earn a livelihood, the state can receive revenues in the form of taxes and royalties, and the environment remains protected,” he continued.
Meanwhile, PT Timah’s President Director, Restu Widiyantoro, expressed appreciation for the support from Commission XII DPR RI in helping PT Timah improve its performance.
Restu added that PT Timah has implemented several strategic measures to involve communities in the company’s business processes through tin mining cooperatives that will accommodate artisanal miners.
To boost production performance, Restu noted that PT Timah is also strengthening security in its concession areas, including through the “Special Sector” Block System Program at sea.
“We thank you for the support given to PT Timah. We hope this synergy continues. PT Timah has taken several strategic steps to involve communities through partnerships that will be managed via tin cooperatives. PT Timah is also committed to conducting tin mining under good mining practices to provide optimal contributions for the community, the state, and the nation,” Restu concluded.
