Commemorating World Mangrove Day, PT Timah's 48,000 Tree Planting Program Plants Mangroves in Four Regions

PANGKALPINANG -- In commemoration of World Mangrove Day 2024 on July 26, 2024, PT Timah planted 15,500 mangrove trees in four areas.

Tens of thousands of mangrove trees were planted in Baskara Bakti Village, Central Bangka Regency, Fisherman's Village, Bangka Regency, Padang Village in East Belitung Regency, and in Tanjung Medang Village, Meranti Islands Regency, which was carried out simultaneously on Friday, July 26, 2024.

This mangrove planting is also in line with the movement to plant 48,000 trees to welcome PT Timah's 48th anniversary on August 2.

Tens of thousands of trees have been planted in stages since January 2024 and the 48,000th tree will be planted on August 2. PT Timah collaborates with various levels of society, Regional Government, and communities.

Until July 25, 2024, 37,610 trees have been planted, and to coincide with World Mangrove Day on July 26, PT Timah will also plant thousands of mangrove trees. Meanwhile, the rest will be planted on August 2 2024 to complete the 48,000 trees.

Members of the MIND ID mining industry holding collaborate with various community groups, youth groups, students, and local governments to plant mangroves.

PT Timah's commitment to planting mangroves has been going on for a long time, mid-2017-2023, PT Timah planted 119,150 stems in the Company's operational areas, namely Bangka Island, Belitung and Kundur Island.

This mangrove planting is also PT Timah's effort to protect coastal ecosystems and is also an effort to realize the target of carbon neutral or net zero emissions by 2060.

One of the teachers involved in mangrove planting activities in Baskra Bakti Village, Husni, said that many of their students were involved in mangrove planting activities as an educational effort to love the environment.

"This is the second time that students at our school have been involved in this activity. Planting mangroves is very good for the progress of Baskara Bakti Village as well as educating our students," he said.

Likewise, the Deputy Chancellor of Pertiba University, Jupri Sani Akbar, said that planting mangroves has many benefits for the coastal environment.

"Planting mangroves can have a lot of economic impact on the community, it can improve coastal ecosystems and can also become a tourist destination for the community so that it has an economic impact," he said.

In the future, he hopes that mangrove planting can continue so that the benefits can continue to be felt. (*)
