Commemorating World Environment Day, PT Timah Kundur Region Employees Plant Mangrove Seedlings on Batu Cat Beach

KUNDUR -- In commemoration of World Environment Day, PT Timah Tbk Kundur Region carried out Mangrove-type mangrove planting activities which were centered on Batu Cat Beach, Gemuruh Village, West Kundur District, Wednesday (5/6/2024).

This mangrove planting was carried out by PT Timah employees. This is also a form of Timah's people's commitment to supporting environmental conservation activities in the company's operational areas.

Head of the Karimun Regency Environmental Service (DLH) Rita Agustina expressed her appreciation to PT Timah for being consistent in planting mangroves.

"PT Timah is very good at paying attention to the environment. Moreover, apart from planting, maintenance and monitoring are also carried out," he said.

According to him, PT Timah's mangrove planting is not just about planting but also paying attention to the level of success so that they can grow well.

"Sometimes planting is done haphazardly, so when the tide is high and low the mangrove seeds are carried away by sea water. But apart from planting, PT Timah always carries out regular monitoring to ensure that what is planted is in line with our hopes of preserving the environment," he said.

He hopes that PT Timah can continue this mangrove planting program as an effort to protect coastal ecosystems.

"Hopefully this can continue to be done in a sustainable manner so that it can provide sustainable benefits," he hoped.

Rudy, one of the employees who took part in the planting activity, said that he was happy to be able to take part in this mangrove planting activity.

"As Timah people, we must have a sense of responsibility towards the environment," he said.

According to him, mangroves have many benefits for coastal ecosystems, such as reducing the impact of abrasion.

"Mangroves will be a good habitat for the development of small fish such as squid, shrimp, crabs. Having a mangrove forest whose habitat is maintained will have an economic impact on fishing communities," he said. (*)
