Commemorating World Environment Day 2025, PT Timah Encourages Employees to Take Action Against Plastic Pollution

BANGKA -- In commemoration of World Environment Day on June 5, PT Timah Tbk, through its North Bangka Division, held a morning assembly at its operational office yard on Monday (June 2, 2025).

The event was led directly by the Division Head of North Bangka Area, Benny P. Hutahaean, who delivered a message, and was attended by employees as a reflection of the company’s commitment to environmental preservation.

For 2025, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) has designated the global theme for World Environment Day as “Ending Plastic Pollution.”

PT Timah’s Department Head of Corporate Communication, Anggi Siahaan, stated that the company is committed to implementing sustainable environmental management, including plastic waste management.

This commitment arises from the significant impact that plastic pollution has on the environment, public health, and living beings.

“The mining industry plays a strategic role. The company operates on a large scale, utilizes natural resources, and involves a range of logistics, equipment, and mobility activities that—if not properly managed—can contribute to pollution, including plastic pollution. That’s why the company is committed to sustainable business processes,” Anggi said.

She added that the campaign to end plastic pollution is also being promoted internally within the company by encouraging all PT Timah personnel to actively take part in reducing plastic waste around the company's operational areas.

“The company continuously educates employees to take action against plastic pollution—not merely out of regulatory obligation, but from a sense of awareness as living beings who coexist with nature,” she said.

Anggi emphasized that the company now aims not only to create economic value but also to take responsibility for generating environmental and social value.

“As a global tin mining company, PT Timah remains committed to implementing good mining practices and integrating ESG principles and sustainable mining into its business processes,” Anggi concluded.
