Commemorating World Clean Up Day, PT Timah, Students, and the Community Join Forces to Clean Up Taman Sari

BANGKA -- To commemorate World Clean Up Day 2025, PT Timah Tbk, through its Division of Engineering & Operation Excellence, organized a community clean-up activity at Taman Sari, Sungailiat, Bangka Regency, on Friday (September 26, 2025).

World Clean Up Day, observed every September 20, is a global social movement that encourages people around the world to clean and preserve the planet.

In collaboration with the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency (DLH), the Association of PT Timah Employees’ Wives (IIKT) Sungailiat, the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Bangka Regency, students from SD Maria Goretti, and PT Timah employees, participants worked together to clean the jogging track and surrounding areas of Taman Sari.

Taman Sari Sungailiat is one of PT Timah’s assets that serves as a public space for exercise and community activities. Gotong royong, the spirit of mutual cooperation deeply rooted in Indonesian culture, is also reflected in efforts to preserve the environment.

The clean-up activity was not just about tidying up green open spaces, but also served as a moment to build collective awareness of the importance of environmental conservation. Through this simple action, PT Timah encouraged communities around its operational areas to make clean living and environmental care part of their daily habits.

Head of the Bangka Regency Environmental Agency, Ismir Rachmaddinianto, said the activity was an important step in maintaining public spaces that host many community events.

“Taman Sari is one of PT Timah’s assets that the people of Sungailiat use for jogging or walking, as well as for many events. That’s why we must always strive to keep it clean for everyone’s comfort, one of which is through this clean-up for World Clean Up Day,” he said.

According to Ismir, the clean-up also helps build shared awareness of the importance of maintaining environmental cleanliness and taking care of public facilities.

“Earlier we saw participants from PT Timah employees, DLH, PMI, and SD Maria Goretti students. Interestingly, there were also students from other schools who initially came just to exercise, but ended up joining the clean-up at Taman Sari. This shows that many people still care and are willing to take part in keeping the environment clean and sustainable,” he added.

He also appreciated PT Timah’s consistency in organizing environmental initiatives involving multiple stakeholders. He reminded the community to develop a strong sense of belonging to their surroundings.

Similarly, Fenny, a sixth-grade teacher at SD Maria Goretti, expressed her appreciation for the students’ involvement in the activity.

“I am very happy to see the children so enthusiastic. They even brought their own cleaning tools from home,” she said.

According to Fenny, the experience gave students valuable lessons about the importance of protecting the environment from an early age.

“I believe today’s activity gave the children meaningful lessons through the World Clean Up Day clean-up. They can reflect on how to take care of their surroundings,” she explained.

Fenny also praised PT Timah for consistently involving students in clean-up activities. She hopes similar initiatives will continue to foster awareness and concern for environmental sustainability from an early age.

As a company committed to sustainability, PT Timah understands that protecting the environment cannot be done alone. Collaboration with government, communities, social organizations, and the younger generation is key to creating a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for the future. (*)
